MIDDLE SCHOOL HUMANITIES TEACHER Eastside Catholic School is an educational community of faith, guided by Catholic tradition and teachings, where students in grades six through 12 learn to integrate their thinking and believing in ways that encourage intellectual excellence, nurture relationships and inspire a life of leadership and service to others. Founded by parents in 1980, the school is governed by an elected board of trustees. It is the only seven?year, co?educational Catholic school on the Eastside, and offers a comprehensive college preparatory curriculum. Eastside Catholic School enrolls 850 students, employs 130 faculty and staff members and has an alumni base of over 4,600.
POSITION Eastside Catholic is seeking a full-time middle school humanities teacher for the 2021-22 school year. The successful candidate will embrace the EC humanities curriculum, which is integrated such that English, literature and social studies reinforce content, essential ideas and questions, and provide students with opportunities for relevant and meaningful connections between these subject areas.
Ability to teach the humanities curriculum of English, literature and social studies
Willing and able to teach a class for students who need extra skill development in reading and/or writing
Work with current humanities teachers to collaborate on set curriculum and lesson planning while also bringing new best practices and ideas
Commitment to working with young adolescents
Experience with middle school students and middle school education
Extensive background and expertise in language arts (literary and information text, writing, vocabulary development) and social studies
Practitioner of current best practices in instruction, differentiation, student management and assessment
Experience in standards-based education, teaching and standards-based assessment
A strong work ethic and a commitment to continuous improvement and professional growth as a teacher
A willingness and ability to integrate technology into teaching and information technology into curriculum
Willingness to devote time and effort to curriculum and lesson planning in grade level, department and middle school teams
Excellent collaboration and teamwork skills
Student-centered approach built on positive relationships with a wide range of students
Excellent communication skills and a strong willingness to partner with parents and guardians
