The Department of History, Philosophy and the Social Sciences (HPSS) at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) invites applications for a one-year term appointment as Assistant Professor in Residence, History of North America to commence fall 2021. We seek candidates with specialization in the intersecting histories of settler Americans, Indigenous Americans, Black Americans, and other marginalized communities. Suitable candidates will have previous undergraduate teaching experience, the ability to teach courses on American history to 1865 and 1865-present, and an interest in developing and teaching specialized seminar courses based upon their expertise and research interests.

Job Qualifications Required:
● Earned Ph.D. in American History or American Studies; ABDs with experience teaching self-designed courses will also be considered. ● Evidence of a high level of scholarly practice. ● Experience teaching college-level courses. ● Demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion. ● Confident communication skills, with proven ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
