St. Mary’s Academy is seeking an engaging and dynamic teacher that is qualified to lead the General Music program. This is a full-time position. Candidates should have experience in developing and implementing purposeful instruction that leads to musically literate students. Our music educators focus on the Colorado Music Standards of expression, creativity, theoretical comprehension and aesthetic evaluation as they encourage joyful participation. It is vital that candidates exhibit how they create and foster a love of music in students while teaching the fundamental skills of rhythm, notation, harmony, style and interpretation.
By modeling the Loretto School Values of Faith, Community, Justice and Respect, we teach the social skills of listening, following directions, taking turns and supporting one another. By exhibiting excellence and discipline, we are confident that the children will develop the ability to: use solfeggio, read rhythmic and pitch notation, sing in tune, sing two-part music, listen attentively and critically to music, and appreciate varied musical styles from different cultures.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Teach general music to Pre-Kindergarten - 5th-grade students.
Create a positive classroom culture by incorporating a student-centered and inclusive pedagogy utilizing effective classroom management.
Be willing to collaborate with colleagues to develop cross-curricular learning experiences, and with performing arts staff in developing co-curricular or extra-curricular performances.
Prepare and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that will facilitate active learning within all levels of experience and age groups.
Teach music theory and history as developmentally appropriate for each age group.
Motivate pupils and encourage the progress of each individual student through written evaluation as well as daily authentic assessments.
Maintain care for school-owned facilities, music, musical instruments, and equipment.
Perform other supervisory duties as required of all Lower School teachers, such as recess, lunch, or morning/afternoon pick-up and/or drop-off.
Communicate effectively with St. Mary’s Academy staff, students, and parents.
Bachelor’s Degree in the field of Music Education or comparable experience in music and education
A desire to make a positive difference in the lives of children through music education
Technical and computer aptitude
Knowledge or skills in any of the following is a plus:
Music Together, First Steps in Music, Dalcroze, Orff, Suzuki, Kodaly or another appropriate elementary school-aged music curriculum
Efficiency in piano and/or guitar or ukulele accompaniment skills
Healthy singing pedagogy and/or choral experience
Hand Bell methods
Recorder karate curriculum
A music teaching approach that emphasizes play, dance, and exploration
Music technology, sound equipment set up, computer technology skills
