Applications to this pool will be used to fill part-time, intermittent, instructor positions for credit bearing courses for the Voinovich School's online Master's of Sustainability, Security, and Resilience.
The Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Affairs is an interdisciplinary academic unit at Ohio University. Engaging across sectors, the School's faculty, professional staff, and students work together to promote economic growth, social impact, leadership, and engagement.
Duties will include developing and presenting course content while working closely with the faculty director to meet the needs of the specific learners.
There will be a standard syllabus and course content for online delivery that will be hosted through OU's Blackboard LMS. The qualified candidate will teach and engage with students from a distance and will leverage the collaboration, feedback, discussion, and grading tools in Blackboard.
The Master of Sustainability, Security, and Resilience online course instructor will engage students in learning that meets the course and weekly learning objectives; moderate weekly discussions and encourage quality participation from students; provide meaningful feedback to students on discussions; provide tutorial assistance during established virtual office hours when applicable; assist in creating a positive and supportive learning environment for students; and provide timely grading of assignments and discussions.
We anticipate that online Adjunct Instructors may be needed, depending on internal faculty availability and program needs, in the following subject matter areas:
Resilience Theory and Practice Climate Change Policy Climate Security Risk Assessment Climate and Risk Communication
Master's degree in environmental policy, public policy, environmental science, environmental studies, or related degree required by the start date of the appointment AND At least seven (7) years of relevant/related experience.
Excellent communication skills both oral and written.
Strong organizational and computer skills.
Ph.D. in environmental policy, public policy, environmental science, environmental studies or related field.
At least two (2) years of relevant/related experience.
Previous experience teaching online.
Evidence of successful graduate teaching. Commitment to active learning and use of technology in the learning process.
