The Humanities position at Westmark School requires the teaching of five classes of students in grades 9-12 with distinct learning styles. The successful candidate plans and teaches a skills-based curriculum that focuses on developing reading, writing, executive function, research, social-emotional, and technology skills.
Because the curriculum at Westmark emphasizes a more holistic approach to learning, teachers have the flexibility to utilize content from a wide variety of topics in literature and history to provide strong foundational academic skills. We seek candidates that possess a strong understanding of the current knowledge, research, and best practices for the instruction of reading and writing.
Additionally, the ideal candidate will be well versed in special education and have experience in a special education setting. The teacher will be required to teach courses in executive functioning support for high school students in addition to the content courses.
Teaches courses in Upper School Humanities across the grade levels as well as Study Hall to students with language-based learning differences;
Serves as an advisor and presents advisory lessons on a weekly basis;
Integrates technology into the curriculum following best practices for special education;
Maintains class PowerSchool page to meet the requirements of Westmark School and updates weekly and posts to PowerSchool class grade book;
Communicates with parents, Instructional Coaches, Advisor, and Division Director regarding students’ behaviors, academic concerns, and academic progress;
Use behavior management systems that are effective for students with language-based learning differences;
Provides a positive environment which encourages students to actively participate in their own learning;
Models professional and ethical standards when dealing with students, parents, peers, and the community; and
Additional responsibilities, as assigned.
Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Education, Special Education Credential and 5+ years teaching high schools students, preferred.
Knowledge of multi-sensory teaching methodologies.
Experience with technology, specifically iPads, Macs, PCs and SMART Technologies.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
