The Department of Landscape Architecture in the College of Design at Iowa State University is accepting applications for a non-tenured faculty member to teach courses at the undergraduate and/or the graduate level. Course offerings where expertise is needed are in the second year traveling studio, landscape architecture design, and or history/theory/criticism. The position is at the rank of Lecturer, Assistant Professor of Teaching, or Assistant Professor of Practice depending on applicant experience. This position is a full-time (9 month) appointment starting August 16, 2021.
The selected applicant would teach at least four courses over the academic year. Two courses, in the fall semester, are part of the Savanna Traveling Studio and address landscape studies, materials, details and design of the built environment. These courses are taught both on and off campus and during the semester students travel with faculty twice for two week long trips. Courses in the spring semester address foundation and/or advanced design studio (graduate or undergraduate level), digital design methods, and/or advanced special topics to be determined in consultation with the department chair.
Design faculty members are designated educators who support the comprehensive mix of accredited and nationally ranked degree programs within the College of Design.Â Our faculty help educate our students to become successful designers, planners, artists, and scholars who enhance human experience and improve the natural, social, and built environments.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Lecturer and Assistant Professor of Teaching
-MLA or Masterâs Degree in landscape architecture or related field
Assistant Professor of Practice
-BLA and a minimum of 5 years professional experience
-Professional Landscape Architecture or Architecture Registration
-Experience in studio teaching, field based learning, drawing, material detail and craft, and design
-Demonstrated evidence of national and/or international design recognition
