Simpson College invites applications for the Director of Off-Campus Programs. Reporting to the Associate Dean for Student Academic Services, the Director oversees the development, planning, implementation, assessment, and ongoing improvement of the off-campus programs offered by the college. We are especially interested in candidates who will contribute to a campus climate that supports equity and diversity. The Director will direct the activities of the Office seeking to ensure that all off-campus programs are of high quality and are shaped and governed by the best practices in the field. The Director will advise students seeking to study off campus—both domestically and internationally—help faculty design and implement off-campus programs for the regular semester and May Term, and work closely with faculty and the College’s Registrar to ensure the quality of the off-campus experience.
This is an exciting opportunity for an entrepreneurial and self-motivated candidate as Simpson College reimagines off-campus study for the 21st century and embarks on the implementation of a new general education curriculum. The new curriculum emphasizes experiential learning, and the College is looking to develop new and innovative partnerships that will allow students to develop the skills and capacities needed for today’s fast-changing environment. The College uses a three-week May term to provide students with multiple short-term faculty-led travel experiences at sites around the globe.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides administrative leadership, support for, and evaluation of the off-campus programs offered by the college in conjunction with the Study Abroad Committee
Provides advice and counseling for students seeking to study off campus
Overseas the financial/budgetary management of the college’s off-campus programs
Engages in crisis and risk management for the college’s off-campus educational experiences
Manages the application processes for students to learn and faculty to teach in an international education program
Schedules, plans, publicizes, and implements events designed to encourage students to study off campus
Overseas the Dr, Joe Walt International Education Scholarship application, review, and award process
Creates and maintains program webpages as needed
B.A. degree required, Master’s degree preferred.
Experience working in a higher education environment and/or international education.
Experience in advising students
Experience with Website creation, Word, Excel, etc.
Ability to work effectively without immediate supervision.
Ability to work effectively and positively with students, faculty, and staff.
A language in addition to English
High attention to detail and analytical orientation
Personal experience in studying abroad
