The USC Viterbi School of Engineering is recognized for creating new and innovative models of technology entrepreneurship and commercialization that are firmly rooted in real world needs.Â The mission of the Viterbi School's Office of Technology Innovation and Entrepreneurship (OTIE) is to (1) educate engineers on strategies to invent, develop, integrate, and sustain technologies that address significant needs; (2) launch ventures with meaningful social and economic impact based on USC faculty, staff, students, and technologies; and (3) promote an ethical and inclusive technology innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem.Â OTIE is seeking an Assistant Director who will report to the Vice Dean for Technology Innovation and Entrepreneurship to assist in the administration and management of OTIE and to teach courses related to its programs.Â This position is full-time with an initial two year fixed-term.
Teaches and coordinates co-curricular training programs for university faculty, staff, and students in technology innovation and entrepreneurship
Teaches undergraduate-level courses in technology innovation and entrepreneurship and serves as a coordinator for the Engineering Honors Program - Innovation Track
Manages USC Viterbi pitch competition program(s); designs and delivers the education program; coordinates and collaborates with co-instructors; links participating teams to the mentor and investor community; coordinates customer and problem discovery travel and learning experiences; provides budgets and financial reports for student activities; recruits judges; and runs the final pitch competition event(s).
Directs programming for USC Viterbi community including students and faculty such as creating and managing investor events for faculty commercialization effort; advising students and faculty on business model development and validation; preparing faculty for internal and external funding solicitations relevant to technology commercialization.
Serves as a key resource for USC Viterbi innovation activities and programming. Interfaces with faculty, staff and/or external contacts to support the USC Viterbi startup community. Coordinates the integration of the external stakeholders such as the business community in programming. Resolves problems and/or questions referred by project staff or administrators.
Manages communication and marketing strategy in the deployment of programming and recruiting activities. Communicates project progress and results to sponsors and stakeholders. Develops, prepares and edits publications, speeches, presentations, official correspondence, newsletters, brochures, manuals and other training materials, advertising copy, etc, as needed or assigned.Â Identifies and determines topics or subjects for various projects.
Communicates program and project progress and results to donors, sponsors, and other stakeholders.
Researches, gathers, organizes, and summarizes best practices and data for incubation activities. Develops, evaluates, recommends and implements procedures for data acquisition, management and quality control. Analyzes data for trends or conclusions and presents results and recommendations to Vice Dean of Technology Innovation and Entrepreneurship.
Manages the accurate and real-time collection of project participation data and provides recommendations to improve performance.Â Recommends statistical methods for data analysis and interprets results.
Masterâs degree in a STEM-related or industry-related field and 3 yearsâ experience in project management and administration.
Ph.D. or equivalent advanced degree in a STEM-related or industry-related field
Two years of relevant experience in industry or an institution of higher education
Five years of relevant experience in industry or an institution of higher education.
Experience in project management and administration at an institution of higher education.
Prior teaching experience at the university level on topics relevant to technology innovation and entrepreneurship.
Demonstrated effective written and verbal communications skills, including the ability to work successfully in a diverse community.
Ability to effectively manage teams in a collaborative environment.
Experience in data analysis and interpreting results.
