The Executive Director of Business Operations and Strategy will serve as a member of the Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) leadership team and a trusted advisor to the Vice Chancellor for DAR in assuring quality execution of business processes and in defining and driving strategic operational initiatives. The Executive Director will lead continuous improvement efforts by making data driven recommendations regarding business processes and resource allocation. The position will lead efforts for transformational change initiatives to assure projects are progressing according to established timelines. This leader will help develop and maintain a strategic plan that will guide DAR's efforts to find new, creative, and innovative ways to engage with university constituents.

The Department of Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) assists Vanderbilt University in securing the resources, both human and financial, that are required to achieve its mission and goals. The Department is responsible for the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of individuals and organizations whose charitable objectives are consistent with those of Vanderbilt University's teaching and research programs.
Duties and Responsibilities
Execution of strategic priorities as identified by DAR's Vice Chancellor in close collaboration with the leadership team.
Lead efforts for qualitative and quantitative analysis of DAR business processes to drive organizational efficiencies and assure adequate resource allocation.
Develop metric/measurement criteria to evaluate and track the impact of transformational initiatives.
Serve as an advisor and thought partner to the Vice Chancellor and the leadership team supporting and driving best practices.
Collaborate closely with DAR and university partners to assure successful execution of priority projects, while continuously identifying opportunities for ongoing program improvements and enhancements.
Take on operational leadership of projects as needed to assure delivery of expected outcomes.
Contribute to the direction of the future state of DAR's engagement activities; assess impact to DAR's strategy and develop actionable plans.
Lead multiple projects and collaborate with cross-institutional teams; establish goals, define deliverables, obtain feedback, balance resources, and manage timing expectations; proactively identify and address complex roadblocks.
Engage consultants, when necessary, to evaluate business processes and/or provide expertise related to new initiatives.
Develop and effectively communicate strategic business proposals to obtain executive leadership support for recommended business development initiatives.
Manage DAR's internal process improvement efforts, including the Strategy Team and corresponding internal consulting projects.
This position will supervise the Director of Data Analytics, the Associate Director of Project Management, and may be asked to assume responsibility of key operating areas as needed.
A Bachelor's degree, or the equivalent, is required.
A Master's degree is preferred.
At least 10 years of relevant experience is necessary.
Consulting experience working on optimizing processes and operational efficiencies is preferred.
A strategic mind-set and the ability to generate new, creative ways to drive positive outcomes are vital.
Must have solid business judgment and executive communication skills.
Must possess management experience and the ability to clarify and summarize complex issues to all audiences.
Project management experience, analytical skills, and attention to detail are fundamental.
The ability to effectively influence and communicate cross functionally with all levels of management, throughout the university, and with external constituents is crucial.
Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive and confidential information is essential.
Proficiency in software tools (e.g., Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint), and other applications for communication, analysis, and operation is required.
