Job Summary: EWU is seeking a part-time Piano Technician to provide technical services for the Music Department's inventory of approximately 50 pianos and 20 keyboards in collaboration with the Director of Piano and Keyboard Studies. The candidate will maintain EWU's pianos at practice and performance standards that meet the requirements of faculty, students and guest artists. In furtherance of the Department's objectives, the incumbent will work with the Director to implement strategic maintenance projects to ensure that students education experiences are supported by access to uniformly high-quality instruments.
Work will take place on the Cheney campus. The music department is merging with a Department of Fine and Performing Arts in a new College of Humanities and Social Sciences. The position will report to the Music Department Chair until July 1, 2021 and then the Chair of the Department of Fine and Performing Arts thereafter.

Tuning (minimum or base level, other tuning as needed): * Classrooms: 6 - 12 times per year depending on the room (choir & band 12 times/yr) * Keyboard Lab: N/A * Offices: 2 - 12 times per year (Piano 12 times; Voice 6 times) * Recital Hall: 6 - 36 times per year (Recital Hall pianos weekly) * Practice rooms: 2 - 6 times per year (Piano major pianos 6 times) * Repairs are done as needed. * Repair or replace piano benches as needed.
Reconditioning, Rebuilding & Replacement: (This is on-going, as determined by the piano technician and piano faculty based on the current state of the pianos and the following priority): 1 Performance instruments 2 Piano studios 3 Locked (piano major) practice rooms 4 Classrooms & Labs 5 Voice & Composition studios 6 Practice rooms 7 Other faculty studios
Required Qualifications: * A minimum of 5 years of working experience after passing the PTG exam. * Completion of a recognized training program as a piano technician * Demonstrated ability to develop and foster strong working relationships both within and external to the organization * Demonstrated ability to apply a culturally responsive and flexible approach that is supportive to the diverse needs, including universal accessibility, of our students, faculty, staff and the public.

Job Duties: % of Time: 100 Responsibility / Duty: * Conduct keyboard tuning, maintenance, and repairs. * Design and implement a program and schedule of long-term instrument maintenance including: tuning, repair, concert preparation, regulation, voicing, reconditioning and rebuilding; * Develop strategies for funding the on-going maintenance, replacement and rebuilding of the Departments $1.5 million inventory of 70+ instruments; * Design and implement record-keeping systems for inventory management, ordering parts and supplies, instrument service history, time management, scheduling and other reports as needed by the Department; * Communicate closely with administration and faculty regarding concert/recital schedules and the status of the Departments keyboard instruments. * Concert Preparation: The piano technician is responsible for preparing the pianos for all of the Departments concerts on- and off-campus (except for long-distance tours). * Hire, train and supervise student assistants as needed. * Arrange for and supervise all Music Dept piano/harpsichord moving. * Maintain the piano workshop room, supplies, tools for piano maintenance and rebuilds. * Optional_: Teach a class especially for piano majors on the inner workings of pianos.

This position is covered by the Washington Federation of State Employees Collective Bargaining Agreement. Salary Information: $24,396 $27,594
