The Parkside School is seeking a clinical social worker with a strong background in psychodynamic treatment to join our team of specialists. Our therapist’s work with children and staff inside and outside of the classroom and endeavor to work closely with staff and families to support their understanding of children’s social and emotional strengths and challenges.
Our school’s mission is to provide an enriched learning environment for children, aged five to eleven-years-old, who have language-based learning difficulties. Our students’ challenges include a wide range of expressive and receptive language difficulties, as well as motor, sensory and social-emotional developmental delays and differences.
Parkside’s approach emphasizes commitment to the whole child, celebrating students’ strengths and addressing their struggles through an integrated, interdisciplinary approach.
Social Worker’s Responsibilities and Roles
Provide individual play therapy sessions
Develop treatment plans with interdisciplinary team
Work closely and collaboratively with parents
Attend bi-weekly interdisciplinary teams; meet regularly with teachers of children on caseload
Facilitate weekly classroom-based Social/Emotional Learning Groups; teach groups on Prevention of Sexual Abuse and Internet Safety
Conduct psychosocial intake/developmental history interviews with parents of incoming students
Provide crisis intervention and trauma-related therapy. Given current changes due to Covid-19, we are interested in candidates’ experience with teletherapy and mindfulness techniques.
Supervise Social Work Interns (possible)
Record session notes; write mid-term and end of year reports; complete Counseling sections of IEP’s
Develop individualized therapy materials, e.g. social stories, individualized books for students

Active NYS Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)
2 plus years of psychodynamic experience with children and families.
Strong communication skills with the ability to work closely and collaboratively with teachers and therapists.
