POSITION TITLE:Middle School History & Humanities Teacher
FLSA CLASSIFICATION:Exempt (10.5-month position) August 12, 2021 - June 10, 2022
REPORTS TO:Associate Head of School
The Riviera Ridge School seeks an experienced and motivated MS Humanities & History Teacher for the 2021-2022 school year. A love of history, government, civics, current events, philosophy, and comparative religions and middle school students is a must.
The candidate should demonstrate the ability to provide a student-centered classroom environment and positive learning experience, differentiate curriculum to meet the needs of all levels of learning, as well as foster intellectual curiosity and the development of critical thinking and problem solving skills.
Knowledge and understanding of and commitment to the Marymount mission
Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in history or education
State of California Single Subject Teaching Credential with an emphasis in History, preferred
Three years prior teaching experience at the middle school or High School level, remote teaching experience preferable
Flexibility in working across grade levels and with students at varying language levels
Demonstrated knowledge of subject area and a strong background in curriculum and instruction, classroom management, and assessment
Strong knowledge of how to accommodate lessons and assessments for students with identified learning differences
Conversant in 21st century education practices
Proficiency in Google Suite and Google Apps for Education
Experience teaching with commonly available educational software
Experience with a variety of technology in the classroom such as computers (Mac), digital projectors, document cameras, Interactive Whiteboards, and iPads
Excellent verbal and written communications skills in English and Spanish or other world language
Demonstrated leadership and facilitative skills
Strong public speaking skills
Ability to interact with students, parents, faculty and staff
Flexibility in working with a variety of faculty across divisions on faculty committees
Strong ability to work collegially with faculty and support team
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
Design instruction that emphasizes critical thinking and problem solving through discovery and evaluation while making content relevant to students’ lives today
Create hands-on project based learning experiences that incorporate technology and independent research
Collaborate with colleagues to integrate curriculum across disciplines
Work collaboratively with Divisional Coordinators, instructional faculty, and Associate Head of School to develop interdisciplinary and cross curricular projects
Perform duties associated with being a middle school advisor
Supervise recess, lunch, drop-off, pick-up and assemblies when necessary
Participate in the “life of the school” through service projects, assemblies, community garden, admissions events, mission related professional development and advancement events.
Seek and take part in professional development to enhance professional knowledge and educational training.
Actively participate in weekly faculty development meetings
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
Works in school environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and a varied and diverse array of contacts
Occasionally bend, stoop, and squat
May work at a desk and computer for extended periods of time
Be able to occasionally lift up to 40 lbs.
Willing to work some evening and weekends for school related events or projects
