Position Summary
The Postdoctoral Research Fellow will join an interdisciplinary and multi-institutional NSF-funded research project Broadening Participation of Underrepresented Scholars in Academic STEM: The Influence of an Inclusive Climate on Early-Career Outcomes. The research team is examining the role of an inclusive climate and the impact of COVID-19 on career outcomes and attitudes of underrepresented scholars in academic STEM (https://ee-stem.weebly.com/).
This research is being conducted jointly by Drs. Kendra Spence Cheruvelil, Kevin Elliott, and Georgina Montgomery at Michigan State University (MSU), as well as Drs. Isis Settles and Erin Cech at the University of Michigan (UM). These scholars contribute expertise from the disciplines of psychology, sociology, environmental science, philosophy of science, and history of science. The postdoctoral researcher will be at MSU and be affiliated with the UM. Remote work is possible during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The primary responsibility of the researcher will be to conduct scholarly research focused on data analysis, manuscript development, scholarly presentations, and grant proposal development. They will work with and coordinate the efforts of faculty, postdocs, graduate students, and undergraduate students at both institutions. Opportunities for training, professional development, and conference attendance will be provided by the team as well as through the MSU Office of Postdoctoral Affairs (https://postdocs.msu.edu/).
Opportunities for training and career development will be provided by the team and through programs offered by the UM Postdoctoral Association and through the UM ADVANCE Program. Funds will be provided for travel to one conference per year. Remote work is possible during the COVID-19 pandemic; otherwise, a shared office is provided.
This is a full-time (40 hrs/week), 12 month position and funding is available for one year. Preferred start date is May15, 2022.

Required Degree
Doctorate -Psychology, Sociology, or a related field
Minimum Requirements
- Ph.D. in Psychology, Sociology, or a related field by the start of the position
- Research interests in science of team science, organizational psychology/sociology, inequality, and/or underrepresentation in STEM
- Expertise with quantitative data analysis
- Proficiency with R, SPSS, or Stata
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
- Strong publication track record with at least one first author publication
Desired Qualifications
- Experience working in multidisciplinary or interdisciplinary collaborative groups or teams
- Experience mentoring undergraduate students
- Experience with grant writing
