Job Description:
The Department of Communication Studies in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) invites applications for an Assistant Professor, tenure-track, to complement our departmental expertise in the social science of communication. We welcome applications from scholars who specialize in media (including traditional media, digital media, social media, and entertainment media) and their impacts on or connection to racial, ethnic, religious, or political identities; racism; or inclusion/exclusion.
Areas of specialization could include:
- media's influence on racial identity and its formation
- media representations of race, ethnicity, and diversity
- media and discrimination
- political identity and media engagement
- ingroup/outgroup perceptions and media consumption
- hate speech and media
- racial and religious outgroup aggression in media
A PhD by August 15, 2022, is required. Ideal qualifications include a degree in Communication; a record of publications or the potential for conducting research; a record of effective instruction or the potential to effectively teach. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to our department by teaching a variety of courses in our undergraduate and graduate degree programs and develop classes in their own areas of expertise.
