Position Summary:
The Office of Continuing Professional Education, part of NJAES-Rutgers Cooperative Extension, invites applications for instructors to teach non-credit courses to adult learners on interdisciplinary topics in juvenile justice and youth development. Courses run in the virtual environment; some in-person courses across the state may launch when it becomes safe for participants and instructors to travel. Instructors will design and develop course programming and programming support systems, deliver knowledge- and experience-based online educational opportunities in a specific topic area, coordinate instructional materials, assist with the coordination of classroom support persons as necessary, and complete all necessary documentation in cooperation with a Program Coordinator. Course participants include juvenile justice system professionals, teachers, social workers, legal professionals, counselors, and others entering or experience in the fields surrounding juvenile justice and youth development. Course topics throughout the year include but are not limited to the following: the juvenile justice system, its history, and the current state of juvenile law and policies influencing youth; adolescent development; implicit bias and cultural competency; engaging youth and the families of the incarcerated; strengths-based, trauma-informed approaches to positive youth development; and best practices in educating young people who have not succeeded in traditional school settings. Minimum Education and Experience:
Requires a bachelor's degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience. Instruction of some courses awarding continuing education credits may require an instructor with a Master's degree, Juris Doctor, or current licensure in a specific discipline. Also requires a minimum of three to five years of relevant professional experience, excellent communication skills, and computer literacy; experience teaching online is strongly preferred.
Equipment Utilized:
Use of the Canvas learning management system, Zoom video conferencing platform, and possible additional camera, microphone, and presentation tools.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
During in-person classes, may have to carry up to 40 lbs in course materials/books.
