Position Summary:
The Dean is responsible for providing leadership, continuing the extraordinary enrollment growth and creative programming the School has become known for and affirming the Wurzweiler School of Social Work's mission to train highly competent social workers who reflect the Jewish values and mission of Yeshiva University.
The Dean will report to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs with responsibilities including strategic planning, supervision of program directors and faculty, enrollment management, financial and strategic planning, faculty and staff development, and promotion and tenure. The Dean will serve as the University liaison with external Social Work bodies on matters relating to professional standards, accreditation reviews, public relations, and marketing of the School. Promising candidates should have the ability and disposition to lead efforts in substantive fundraising.
Position Responsibilities:
The Dean will engage in the following:
- Provide vision, leadership, and administrative direction to reinforce and further develop the School as a premier institution reflecting the Jewish mission of Yeshiva University.
- Facilitate faculty research, scholarship, teaching excellence, and service to the community and to the profession.
- Connect Wurzweiler to the mission of Yeshiva University as the flagship Jewish university.
- Purposely guide faculty to external sources of grant funding, both private and public, making grant acquisition an important component of faculty workload.
- Enthusiastically engage in philanthropic outreach.
- Maintain and expand long-term financial sustainability.
- Work cooperatively with Wurzweiler's Board of Overseers.
- Serve as the School's public voice and advocate.
- Collaborate with other units within the University, programmatically and administratively, where appropriate.
- Continue to develop state-of-the-art delivery of current social work education through research and technology.
- Promote academic excellence and diversity in educational programs and faculty and student recruitment.
- Ensure the growth of programs, enrollment, and resources to meet the strategic objectives of the School and the University.
- Appreciate the importance of Sara Schenirer and expand the Wurzweiler-Sara Schenirer partnership.
- Work closely with Everspring, continuing an exceptional collaboration to deliver online education.
- Establish effective academic, administrative, and committee structures to ensure shared governance. Assess staffing needs at the School.
- Guarantee compliance with Yeshiva University, New York State Education Department, and the Council on Social Work Education's academic and administrative policies and procedures.
- Develop business and academic partnerships that can enhance the school's reputation, standing, and enrollments.
- Sustain and further develop community partnerships.
Experience & Educational Background:
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- An MSW is required.
- A required doctorate in Social Work or a related field as well as other qualifications appropriate for appointment at the full professor level.
- Prior experience in higher education, teaching and administration, as well as familiarity with the Educational Policy and Accreditation Standards of the Council on Social Work Education along with at least 5 years prior experience as a dean, associate dean, or program chair in the academy.
- Demonstrated evidence of scholarly achievement, grant acquisition, successful fundraising, and a commitment to student learning and cultural and ethnic diversity.
