The Department of History and Political Science is accepting applications for an Assistant Professor and History Education Preparation Program Coordinator. The program coordinator is a tenure-track faculty member who holds both a Ph.D. in History and a North Carolina Professional Teaching License. The program coordinator manages the degree program area for History Education, and works directly under the supervision of the department chair, who is responsible for the administration of the program. The chair evaluates the program coordinator/assistant professor each year, providing feedback to ensure continuous improvement, and ensuring a balance among the between the position's coordinator responsibilities, and academic teaching/research/service requirements. The candidate should be licensed and be able to provide field and clinical supervision at the schools where students teach before graduation. This supervision is an essential function for the program coordinator.
Primary Function of Organizational Unit:
The primary goals of the History and Political Science Department are to foster students' aspirations, to cultivate intellectual curiosity, and to prepare graduates for successful careers. Departmental courses are designed to develop skills in written and oral communication, ethical reasoning, critical thinking, intercultural and global awareness, and scholarly research. The department's curriculum promotes the development of reason, an understanding of the past, and reflective inquiry to inspire informed, engaged citizens.
The unit is one of six departments within the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences, which also houses the Departments of Criminal Justice, English, Journalism and Mass Communication, Liberal Studies, and Visual and Performing Arts. CAHSS enrolls more than 1,950 students and has more than 160 faculty members.

Requirements:
Ph.D. in History and a North Carolina Professional Teaching License by the anticipated date of appointment.
