GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Children's School at Quinsigamond Community College provides full day programs open to students enrolled in the College with children ages two year and nine months to five years, as well as members of the college and community. Additionally, the School serves as a training site for students in the Early Childhood Education program.
The Director of Children's School is responsible for the management of the Children's School. The Director is also responsible for coordinating with the faculty and staff of Early Childhood Education program to provide opportunities for QCC students to observe teacher/children interactions, observe best practices within early childhood education, and complete practicum hours within the Children's School.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
The Director of Quinsigamond Community College Children's School reports directly to the Dean of Public Services, Education and Social Sciences.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
The Director of Quinsigamond Community College Children's School exercises direct supervision of staff assigned to the Children's School including the office secretary, teachers and work study students.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Hiring, training, supervising and evaluating staff based upon the philosophy of the Children's School and Early Childhood Education Department.
- Managing the recruitment, enrollment and orientation of children and families to Children's School program and Early Childhood department's programs.
- Maintaining the Children's School's handbook and responsible for the development of all policies and procedures.
- Following all safety protocols in accordance with EEC and college guidelines.
- Maintain a consistent work schedule that provides opportunity to both open and/or close the Children's School program.
- Advocating for and securing specialized care or services for children with diverse needs while supporting families.
- Synchronize with Early Childhood Education program faculty to ensure the Children's School practices are meeting the needs of the Early Childhood Education students and program.
- Minimum of twelve to fifteen hours of classroom work per week modeling best practices based upon the philosophy of both programs for staff and students.
- Interacting positively with individuals: parents/guardians, Early Childhood Education program students, faculty, community visitors and campus personnel.
- Interacting with parent groups; providing parent information and education through communication tools such as a newsletter, parents' night, and family events etc.
- Interacting with community groups and agencies; area high schools and colleges, child care resources, child care centers, social service agencies, etc.
- Working with the college's External Affairs Offices to write grants and raise funds to support the Children's School.
- Maintaining licensure and accreditation as well as assuring compliance with Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care, National Association for the Education of Young Children, and QRIS Standards.
- Working with the college's facilities department for the maintenance of the physical learning environment.
- Embracing the ideals of diversity and inclusiveness, and support the equal rights of all people by advancing the understanding and appreciation of differences, including age, race, gender, ability, religious convictions, socio-economic status, ethnic heritage, or sexual orientation.
- Providing flexible, responsive, and high quality customer service to all whom we serve, be they students, community or staff, and continually assess processes and procedures to revise accordingly.
- Attending Early Childhood Education Department Meetings as requested.
- Participating in local, state and national affinity and advisory groups.
- Developing and monitoring the annual budget.
- Initiating the Request to Employ (RTE), purchase orders, contracts and check requests etc.
- Completing the ordering process for program needs including supplies and food.
- Assuring the completion of and compliance with CORI/SORI for students who enter the Children's School classrooms. Respect and uphold confidentiality.
- Actively supporting the teaching and learning process; practice honesty and integrity in and out of the classroom; strive to create and support a student-centered environment while fostering academic innovation and excellence.
- Working actively with other areas of the College to ensure a spirit of college-wide collaboration, collegiality, civility, and teamwork.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education, Curriculum and Instruction, or relevant field.
- Five (5) years of experience in the field of Early Childhood Education.
- Two (2) years' experience as a Director of an Early Childhood Education program.
- Certification as Director I from EEC.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Four (4) years of supervision and management experience in an Early Childhood Education Setting.
- Certification as Director II from EEC.
- Experience with EEC licensure, QRIS, and NAEYC accreditation of Early Childhood programs.
- Experience supervising student teachers.
- Experience interacting and coordinating with community groups and agencies.
- Excellent computer, oral, written and interpersonal skills.
