Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM; This is a temporary position to end on or before June 30, 2023 with a possibility of renewal on an annual basis if funds and/or program needs exist.

About the Position:
The Office of the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs plans and manages all academic and instructional resources that support the teaching, scholarship and research mission of Cal State Fullerton. We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our team as the CalNAGPRA Repatriation Coordinator. The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude, an active, energetic mind, and a leadership style that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.
California State University, Fullerton (CSUF) is seeking a CalNAGPRA Repatriation Coordinator to coordinate the University's compliance with federal and state NAGPRA legislation, including the recently implemented California Assembly Bill 275. Compliance with AB 275 will require a multi-phase process of inventory, consultation, correspondence, visitation, and eventually repatriation of curated collections to Native American tribes.
The CalNAGPRA Repatriation Coordinator will report to the Vice Provost of Academic Affairs and work closely with leadership teams in the Office of the Provost, the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, University faculty, and the Division of Anthropology. Other duties as assigned.
Essential Qualifications:
Masters degree or Ph.D. from an accredited college or university in Anthropology, Native American Studies, History, Museum Studies, or a related social science field. 2 years of experience in program and project coordination. Demonstrated working knowledge of CalNAGPRA. Training, education, and/or experience in curatorial, collections, archival work, and cultural resource management, including knowledge of methods and processes for recording, classifying, and interpreting factual information. Knowledge of working with modern archaeological methods and southern California Native American prehistoric and historic archeological and ethnographic collections. Demonstrated successful consultation and collaboration with Native American Tribal leaders and representatives.
A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.
Preferred Qualifications:
Ability to plan, manage, and lead projects and coordinate teams and have excellent collaboration skills. Basic budget management. Knowledge of processes and systems to track and analyze data, and prepare reports. Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with a wide range of audiences. Excellent organization and time management skills. Demonstrated competence in understanding, interpreting, and communicating procedures, policies, information, ideas, and instructions. Demonstrated skills setting priorities and deadlines to ensure project goals and objectives are obtained within deadlines. Personally motivated and able to work independently. Advanced analytical, problem-solving and critical-thinking skills within a complex work environment and to adopt effective courses of action. Proficient of MS Office Suite Programs, including Teams, Excel, and/or other database management system.
Knowledge of Southern California Native American history and culture, including federally recognized tribes, non-federally recognized tribes. Experience working with culturally sensitive artifacts. Demonstrated experience and knowledge of Native American perspectives and people. Cultural sensitivities to coordinate tribal consultation.
Ability to understand problems from multiple perspectives and anticipate impact of problems and solutions to various stakeholders.
