Position Announcement: Librarian for Business
Vanderbilt University and the Vanderbilt Libraries are in an exciting time of transformation. With new leadership at the Chancellor, Provost and University Librarian levels, the Libraries are re-envisioning the future of library services at Vanderbilt. Through radical collaboration we seek to deepen student and faculty engagement with the libraries, equip students for life-long information proficiency, increase faculty research impact, create more opportunities for interdisciplinary experimentation, and optimize access to collections and resources, including marginalized and hidden histories and cultures.
We are seeking a team member to help us educate the next generation of leaders and enable research that solves our most pressing problems. We are looking for an innovative and user-centered problem solver ready to join our collaborative environment and transform library services.
The Librarian for Business provides business reference and instruction services for the Owen Graduate School of Management and Vanderbilt communities of faculty, staff, students, alumni, as well as members of the local business community. In the Management Library, we work together across departments to solve problems and support each other's work. Recent MLIS graduates and early career librarians with an interest in business and finance are encouraged to apply. The Management Library is committed to providing training, mentoring, and other forms of support to encourage the growth of this position.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide business information consultation to the students, faculty, and staff at Vanderbilt University
- Apply in-depth knowledge of business research with real-world business applications in one-on-one consultations, workshops, and classroom teaching
- Serve as the primary library liaison for business related-sub disciplines, such as Entrepreneurship, Healthcare, and Marketing. Build relationships and communication channels with students, faculty, post-docs, and staff in these programs
- Provide instructional services, such as orientations, one-shot instruction sessions for classes, and course assignments and workshops on tools and topics
- Develop learning goals, design classes, and research exercises for the classroom
- Opportunity to deliver credit-bearing Advanced Business Research course for graduate business students; develop curriculum, create, and evaluate assignments and manage the classroom
- Participate in undergraduate-focused initiatives, including Owen Accelerator projects and supporting Vanderbilt's Undergraduate Business Minor and Undergraduate business clubs
- Manage online research guides, creating topical and course guides to support research, instruction, and assignments
- Working knowledge of Springshare products to create online research guides and participate in library-wide chat reference service
- Participate in evaluating library databases and resources; collections are developed collaboratively at the Management Library
- Participate in the life of the library and the university, liaise with student organizations, and staff groups, including the Wond'ry, Development & Alumni Relations, and Owen's Career Management Center
- Serve the Vanderbilt University and the library profession by participation in Owen, library, and university committees and initiatives
- Professionally active in local and national organizations, through collaboration, leadership, scholarship, and presentation
Qualifications
- Master's degree in Library and Information Science (or equivalent) from an ALA-accredited institution required; pending graduates for 2022 will be considered.
- Interest and commitment to developing expertise in business research methods and tools
- Strong service ethic
- Evidence of strong analytical and research skills
- Outstanding interpersonal and communications skills; oral and written
- Demonstrated ability to effectively teach and present
- Ability to adapt to and adopt emerging technologies with ease
- Demonstrated reference and instruction experience
- Evidence of potential professional contributions and ongoing professional development
- Capacity to shift priorities in a rapidly changing environment
- Ability to work across a broad-based constituency
- Awareness of current concerns and developments in librarianship
- One to three years professional business library experience is preferred
- Knowledge of business subjects (marketing, finance, management, etc.) and relevant information sources is preferred
- Interest and experience with data analytics tools, such as Tableau, Python, or R is preferred
