Job Summary:
- As part of the Division of Student Affairs, the Assistant Director is responsible for providing support to the Director and overseeing key student initiatives for the Office for Cultural Engagement and Social Change.
- As a Hispanic Serving Institution, an Asian American Native American Pacific Islander-Serving Institution and the sixth most diverse campus in the nation and this role supports student retention initiatives and cultural programming for multiple identity types.
Essential Duties:
- Advising and Supervision: Supervise full-time coordinator position and graduate assistant(s) including weekly meetings, professional development, delegating tasks/responsibilities, and staff accountability.
- Oversee cohort programs specifically focused on student retention and completion, heritage month programming, cross-campus collaborative programs, Assist in facilitating positive student interactions, propose interventions, and manage conflict resolution to ensure holistic student leadership development.
- Cultural Programming: Supervise student employees and volunteers on the development and implementation of flagship cultural initiatives and the creation of new and innovative programming.
- Collaborative Program: Create and implement collaborative programs across the division and university that promotes equity and inclusion.
- Assessment: Assist with department reports, strategic planning, and assessment including the development of learning and program outcomes that are rooted in contemporary best practices. Budget and Resource Management: Responsible for oversight of programmatic budgets.
- Oversee effective and appropriate use of all resources. Committees: Serve on University and Student Affairs committees as assigned or approved and other job functions as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Student Affairs Administration or College Student Personnel or related degree.
- At least three (3) years of experience working with underrepresented student population in higher education environment.
- Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate. Valid TX Driver's License.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with teaching, training and facilitations related to diversity, inclusion, and social justice education. Experience with advising college students and student organizations with an emphasis in culturally and identity-based groups.
- Understanding and practical application of student development theories/research with a focus on underrepresented student development and retention.
- Bilingual.
- Experience producing departmental reports and assessment.
- Experience in budget management.
