Job Summary Overview:
The Department of History, Philosophy and the Social Sciences (HPSS) at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) invites applications for a full-time, two-year term appointment in Psychology starting in fall of 2022.
We seek candidates to teach undergraduate courses in psychology to art and design majors within a diverse multidisciplinary department. As the sole full-time psychologist, the successful candidate should be able to teach about the role of psychological processes in human experience, grounding this understanding in classic and contemporary psychological theories and methodologies. Subfield is open, but the ideal candidate would be able to teach a range of introductory courses and special seminars for non-majors within their area of focus. This position offers significant autonomy to determine what areas of psychological study would appeal and benefit students who will go on to create the culture we live in (design the clothing we wear, the buildings we inhabit, the products we use, the ads we see, the books we read to our children, etc.).
All candidates should demonstrate quality teaching, and have the ability to contribute to our undergraduate concentrations in HPSS. Interested candidates may also be considered for teaching in one of our divisional master degree programs in Nature/Culture Sustainability Studies and Global Arts and Cultures.
Job Qualifications Required:
The suitable candidate will have undergraduate teaching experience and a Ph.D. in the field of psychology and/or behavioral sciences (ABDs considered).
