St. Luke’s School, a secular, college-preparatory day school serving grades 5 through 12 in New Canaan, Connecticut, seeks a teacher to cover one or both fall ‘22 leave replacement openings for middle school history classes: a one-month leave in 5th grade to begin in September, and a four-month leave in 7th/8th grade to begin in October or early November.
Primary Job Responsibilities:

Teach a full course load of either three 5th grade Social Studies (September opening), or four combined 7th and 8th grade American Social History classes (October opening), or both.

Serve as co-advisor for a group of 6-8 students.

Maintain an open online gradebook, attend department meetings, write report card comments and/or Academic Progress Reports (if applicable).

Assist with supervisory and other duties as assigned, such as lunchroom or study hall

Inspiring, positive, flexible, collaborative teacher - equally with fellow teachers as with children

Excellent oral and written communication skills

Understanding of early adolescent development, and a love of working with middle school students of all ages and ability levels

Experience using technology creatively and working in a 1:1 teaching environment.

Strong cultural competency skills, with demonstrated commitment to furthering an equitable and inclusive school community that supports a strong sense of belonging.
