Position Description
Seattle University is a highly selective, independent, Catholic, Jesuit institution adjacent to downtown Seattle, and is seeking a dynamic and proven athletics department professional to serve as its Men's Soccer Assistant Coach / Goalkeeper Coach.
Located on Capitol Hill, one of Seattle's most vibrant neighborhoods, Seattle University is one of 28 Jesuit colleges and universities in the United States and currently enrolls more than 7,400 graduate and undergraduate students within nine schools and colleges. The university's athletic program fields 20 Division I intercollegiate teams (9 men's and 11 women's) and is comprised of more than 350 student athletes. The Redhawks, Seattle University's athletic teams, compete in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) in all sports and have an excellent track record of achievement both on the field and court and in the classroom.
Qualifications
Coaching
• Assist the coaching staff in planning and implementing team training sessions.
• Work with the coaching staff to develop specific training plans for the goalkeepers to be integrated into the framework of team training each day.
• Contribute to in-game coaching, focusing on the goalkeeper position.
• Plan and implement individual training plans for goalkeepers during team training.
• Work with strength and conditioning coaches to help develop specific conditioning programs for the goalkeepers.
• Assist coaching staff in organizing implementing offensive and defensive set pieces.
• Ability to utilize video to teach athletes and scout opponents.
Recruiting
• Ability to identify talented student athletes that fit mission of the University.
• Assist the coaching staff in evaluating prospective student athletes, travel required.
• Communicate with prospects via phone, email, and social media.
• Organize and participate in unofficial and official visits.
• Maintain NCAA recruiting records through JumpForward.
• Compile a database of prospects through JumpForward, making sure it is updated on a regular basis.
Administration
• Compile and keep an updated schedule for training, meetings, travel and volunteering for the team and coaches.
• Organize existing equipment and work with equipment manager to order new uniforms and gear for the season.
• Assist in camps during the year, ID camps and youth camps.
• Assist in coordinating travel and all meals for away games.
• Secure training times, locker rooms and video for away games.
Education, Experience and Skills
• Bachelor's degree from an institution of higher education.
• Minimum of five years experience coaching and/or playing at the college level, preferably at the Division I or II level, or coaching and/or playing professional soccer.
• Knowledge of the rules and regulations of NCAA Division 1 athletics.
• Excellent office and administrative skills, task orientation, timeline adherence and the ability to work and collaborate in a group setting.
