The Crefeld School seeks an experienced Middle School History Teacher to begin August 26, 2022 for 2022-23 school year.
Competitive applicants will teach middle school social studies, and be expected to teach a range of history classes including the flexibility to teach elective classes that include 9-12th grade students.
Serving students in grades 7 through 12, The Crefeld School's mission is to graduate self-aware, empathetic, lifelong learners, who possess an appreciation for diverse perspectives, their role in society, and their ability to act as agents of change. Responsibilities include:
- Teaching 2-3 sections of combined 7/8 grade social studies classes. Curriculum is designed by the teacher and emphasizes cross curriculum, project based learning
- Designing and teaching 1-2 semester-long elective courses, open to grades 7-12. Or alternately, teaching a MS pre algebra class.
- Advising 5-8 middle school students in close collaboration with families
- Leading a year-long service learning group as well as running co-curricular activities
- Robust collaboration with team teachers and support staff
Ideal candidates will possess the following credentials / qualities:
- MA or BA in history (or history education)
- 2 or more years teaching middle school social studies classes
- Expertise at designing curriculum that is student-centered and differentiated
- Strong advocate for meeting the needs of diverse learners; experience with Universal Design for Learning a plus
- Passionate about social justice and using history to understand diverse perspectives
- Pedagogical principles align with The Crefeld Approach (see school website)
- Experience with restorative practices (Crefeld is a restorative practices community that highly values student voice and collaborative problem solving)
