The Grayson School: Middle & Upper School Science Teacher (Part-Time & Full-Time available)
Are you passionate about sharing scientific knowledge with eager young minds? Are you inspired by the chance to be a key member of an innovative educational community?
Grayson School students are advanced, curious, and eager to learn. We are looking for individuals who excel at flexible and creative thinking; who see themselves as learners rather than lecturers; who have excellent content mastery as well as solid teaching experience; who are enthusiastic, highly motivated, committed, and eager to join a community that is passionate about supporting gifted children.
You will be expected to teach small classes of around 8 students or less in grades 6-10 while fostering an effective, engaged, student-centered learning environment. Opportunities for growth and leadership are significant as the school continues to expand in the coming years. For the coming school year, this position can be either part-time or full-time depending on the right candidate’s qualifications and interests.
The Grayson School is proud to be an Equal Opportunity Employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees. Grayson does not discriminate in employment on the basis of race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy and gender identity), national origin, sexual orientation, marital status, disability, age, parental status, military service, or other non-merit factor.
YOU MUST HAVE:
- Basic mastery of chemistry, biology, engineering, and earth science; advanced mastery in at least one of these fields.
- A Pennsylvania teaching certificate or private academic certification (may be in process; we will help qualified candidates obtain certification) for 7th-12th grades in either Biology or Chemistry.
- Up-to-date (less than 1 year old) clearances prior to beginning work, including Federal Criminal History, PA State Criminal Record Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance, Mandated Reporter training, TB test, Act 168, and any additional required clearances.
- Sensitivity to and awareness of meeting the social and emotional characteristics of gifted children.
- The ability to clearly articulate evaluations and opportunities for our students and school in both written and spoken communication.
IT WOULD BE AWESOME IF:
- You have an advanced degree in science or education.
- You also have advanced computer science knowledge or background
- You have a background in scientific research.
- You have experience working with gifted children.
- You follow Neil deGrasse Tyson on Twitter, you have a favorite element, or you never delete the Genius series from your DVR.
- You know that if you’re not part of the solution, you’re part of the precipitate.
