Additional Information:
Carleton is a highly selective liberal arts college with curious, enthusiastic students. We seek an equally enthusiastic computer scientist committed to excellence in teaching, curriculum design, research, and undergraduate research advising. We are particularly interested in applicants who can help us strengthen our commitment to inclusion, diversity, and equity. The appointee will teach courses at a range of levels, from introductory courses to advanced undergraduate electives.
Carleton's Department of Computer Science (cs.carleton.edu) includes ten faculty, an administrative assistant, and an experienced full-time system administrator. We typically graduate between 70 and 80 CS majors per year, many of whom work for the department as graders, lab assistants, tutors, and teaching assistants. The CS department is located in newly renovated space within an integrated science center, including specially designed teaching labs and classrooms as well as dedicated space for student-faculty research collaboration. We value research and pedagogy that engage computer science in its many contexts, so we are enthusiastic about interdisciplinary teaching and research, civic partnerships, and discussion of the social impacts of technology. We cultivate a thriving and inclusive CS community that gets together for a weekly speaker series, discussion and reading groups, and just having fun together. There are also several student-run organizations focused on gender diversity in computing, social justice and public interest technology, software development, etc.
To apply, please complete the online application at careers.carleton.edu. Your application should include: a cover letter; CV; a statement about teaching students from diverse backgrounds in an undergraduate, residential, liberal arts environment; a statement about your research and how you would pursue it in an undergraduate liberal arts environment; and your graduate transcript. We also request contact information for writers of three reference letters, at least one of which should address your teaching. We will contact your letter-writers directly to request their electronic submissions. Questions about the position or the application process may be directed to csjobs@carleton.edu. Applications completed by September 28, 2022 will receive full consideration.
