Departmental Overview
The University of California Botanical Garden (UCBG) is a living natural history museum and features one of the most diverse plant collections in the United States. Established in 1890, the Garden's 34 acres contain more than 20,000 accessions, including many rare or endangered species, and displays the plants naturalistically by region of origin. The Mission Statement for the UCBG is 'to develop and maintain a diverse living collection of plants to support teaching and worldwide research in plant biology, further the conservation of plant diversity, and promote public understanding and appreciation of plants and the natural environment.

Responsibilities
- Handle trash/compost/recycle from public Garden bins, sweep areas as needed, pick up trash and debris.
- Unlocking/locking areas and facilities as needed, perform security checks.
- Assess and address accessibility concerns along paths, resolve issues or put out temporary path closures.
- Mow lawn, rake/blow outdoor rental sites.
- Provide assistance for special projects including path work and outdoor stairs.
- Support facilities and building managers with onsite projects as needed.
- Assist in setups, moving furniture, etc.
Required Qualifications
- Basic understanding of building and grounds maintenance and security.
- Ability to learn quickly.
- Ability to read, write, and follow oral and written instructions, and demonstrated ability to perform heavy manual tasks.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a museum, public garden or similar public environment.
- Basic understanding of carpentry, painting, and/or other simple construction skills.
- Some knowledge of plant or willingness to learn.
Salary & Benefits
- This is a full-time (40 hours/week), career position, and eligible for full UC benefits.
- This position is a non-exempt, bi-weekly paid position. Hourly pay for this role is commensurate with experience within the range of $22.64 - $27.61 (Step 1.0 - Step 11.0).

This position is governed by the terms and conditions in the agreement for the Service Unit (SX) between the University of California and the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME). The current bargaining agreement manual can be found at:
