Departmental Overview
UC Berkeley's Office of Communications and Public Affairs leads communications for the most elite public higher education institution in the world, conveying the quality, diversity, vitality, preeminence, and dedication to service of UC Berkeley. We reach diverse audiences and enhance relationships with constituents at all levels, including faculty, staff, students, alumni, donors, parents, visitors, the media, industry, research sponsors, educators, government leaders, and the general public. Our mission is to promote the University's excellence in teaching, research, and public service, and inform stakeholders of our many contributions to the community - locally, nationally, and globally. We provide leadership and services in six integrated functions: News and Media Relations; Executive Communications; Critical Communications; Brand Marketing and Digital Communications; Public Relations and Special Projects, and Visitor and Parent Services.

Responsibilities
- Curates content for the main berkeley.edu homepage and executes any necessary updates.
- This includes staying abreast of the latest news and events taking place across the campus, responding to and evaluating requests to feature content on the homepage and selecting content that is compelling and engaging and furthers the strategic initiatives of the university.
- Once selected, edits and writes headlines, subheadings and related content and edits photos per website specifications.
- Creates and edits web pages in content management systems and produces written and visual content for a variety of web applications.
- Makes updates to departmentally managed websites using a content management system or related software and designs and produces email newsletters.
- Accountable for ensuring technical accuracy and understandability of web content.
- Audits web content on a regular basis and identifies subject matter experts to provide updates.
- Writes and edits content and maintains records of awards, rankings and other institutional information presented on websites.
- Manages the UC Berkeley events calendar, including granting access to users, creating new departmental calendars as requested, responding to inquiries, and providing basic user support, approving events submitted to the main UC Berkeley events calendar and curating the featured events calendar.
- Manages the photo gallery, including granting and maintaining user access, uploading and appropriately tagging and categorizing photos, responding to requests for photos and providing basic user support.
- Suggests improvements for the maintenance and organization of digital assets.
- Under limited supervision, researches, writes and/or edits material for a variety of websites and other publications for internal and external audiences, consulting with clients as necessary.
- Maintains an annual editorial calendar and collaborates with colleagues to ensure campaigns are coordinated across channels.
- Meets and consults with clients on a variety of digital communications projects including moderately complex assignments; develops, presents, and recommends web content, site architecture and visual material.
- Manages comprehensive communications projects, including written, visual, digital, and electronic communications.
- Monitors departmental emails and responds to or reroutes inquiries as appropriate.
- Maintains currency with emerging and state-of-the-art technical and other web-related equipment, requirements and developments (for example, accessibility issues) and recommends and as directed, takes action to ensure compliance.
Required Qualifications
- Thorough knowledge of the fundamentals of design and user experience, including the skill to design in an appealing, lively and relevant way.
- Thorough understanding of technical language and requirements of the assigned work.
- Thorough knowledge of content management systems and / or relevant web applications used for web production and organization-specific computer application programs.
- Thorough skills to create clear, easy-to-navigate, informative, accurate, well-designed, and functional web sites that provide web content consistent with the organization's message and in keeping with management directives and client objectives.
- Thorough understanding of and/or ability to learn organization's processes, procedures, and applicable rules and regulations for web communications.
- Thorough technical skills in computer applications for web production, image handling, publishing and design, illustration, presentation preparation, animation, web interaction, and / or other state-of-the-art web communication capabilities.
- Thorough interpersonal communication skills.
- Thorough skills to develop and implement original ideas and correctly identify and effectively solve problems.
Education
- Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
Salary & Benefits
- This is a full-time (40 hours/week), career position, and eligible for full UC benefits.
- This is an exempt, monthly paid position. The annual salary is commensurate with experience within the hiring range of $69,200.00 to $85,350.00
