Job Summary:
The College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences invites applications for a 50% special faculty/lecturer position in the Music Program housed in the Department of Fine and Performing Arts to begin mid-September, 2022. The candidate hired into this position will receive a one-year 50% appointment for AY2022-2023 with the option for renewal based on funding availability and department need.
The Music Program is seeking a colleague with a strong commitment to students, collegiality, and community partnerships. This Lecturer's primary focus is preparing students not only for their own violin/viola performance but also for the real-life application of their skills in the workforce post-graduation. Not all string majors will pursue a career in performance. For this reason, the successful job candidate must possess adequate experience and knowledge of the many careers available to students with a degree in violin/viola. Past graduates of EWU's music program can be found in various positions, including but not limited to: public and private school music education (all grade levels), college educators, liturgical leadership (performing and conducting), orchestra positions, music therapy, guest artists, guest conductors/clinicians, festival adjudicators, composers, and authors. Evidence of applicant's continuing pursuit of current pedagogical practices in upper strings, and flexibility in practical application of teaching methods will also be considered.
The faculty member hired for this position will be welcomed into an academic community dedicated to cultural diversity, community engagement, and social justice.
Teaching: a typical workload for this position will involve 22.5 credits per academic year, subject to department needs. Responsibilities may include teaching courses in the areas of Applied Violin/Viola, String Techniques, String Methods, Chamber Music, Orchestra Sectionals, Pedagogy, Music in Arts & Culture.
Additionally, all faculty are expected to engage in effective teaching and assessment of student learning.

Responsibility / Duty: Teaching: typical workload for this position will involve 22.5 credits per academic year and the candidate may be required to teach other courses that fulfill the need of the Department and Program according to the expertise of the candidate hired into the position.
Teaching includes the following additional related responsibilities as defined in the faculty CBA:
- Meet all scheduled classes
- Plan, organize and inform students of the course content, texts, readings, assignments, attendance regulations and methods of evaluation including grading scales
- Schedule and attend office hours
- Turn in grades according to established deadlines
Additionally, all faculty are expected to engage in effective teaching and assessment of student learning.
Teaching Responsibilities during AY22-23:
Courses such as: Applied Violin/Viola Lessons, String Techniques, String Methods, Chamber Music, Orchestra Sectionals, Pedagogy, Music in Arts & Culture.
Actual workload will be based on the needs of the department. Additional or alternative courses, if required by the program, to be based on the expertise of the candidate.

Conditions of Employment:
The candidate hired into this position will receive a one-year 50% appointment for AY2022-2023 with the option for renewal based on funding availability and department need.
The required start date for this position is 09/16/2022. To be considered eligible for appointment into the position, applicants must be available and able to start in the position no later than 09/16/2022.
This position, during the course of university employment will be involved in the receipt of, or accountability for, university funds or other items of value; as well as the unsupervised access with the developmentally disabled, vulnerable adults or children under the age of 16. The offer of employment is contingent upon successful completion and passing of a background check prior to beginning employment.
All new employees must comply with EWU immunization Policy 602-02 and provide proof of immunity or vaccination to MMR and proof they are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 before beginning work at EWU. Waivers for the immunization requirements are available for medical or sincerely held religious beliefs.
Salary Information: The expected salary upon hire is $26,814.50.
