ESL & SPANISH INSTRUCTOR (FULL-TIME)
The mission of the Idyllwild Arts Foundation is changing lives through the transformative power of art.
The Idyllwild Arts Academy provides pre-professional training in the arts and a comprehensive college preparatory curriculum to a diverse student body of gifted young artists from all over the world. It is a boarding Arts high school.
The Idyllwild Arts Summer Program provides arts instruction and experiences of the highest caliber to a diverse student population of all ages and abilities.
Idyllwild is a small town located at over 5,000 feet on the western slopes of California's San Jacinto Mountains. Even though it seems far from the hustle and bustle of city life, the town and campus frequently have hosted music festivals, prominent speakers and artists, and community events. Also, it is only two hours by car to Los Angeles and San Diego.

POSITION OVERVIEW
The Idyllwild Arts Academy and Summer Program provides pre-professional arts training in a conservatory environment for talented high school students. Idyllwild Arts Academy welcomes experienced ESL and Spanish instructors to apply to teach a full time load between both ESL and Spanish. The specific number of ESL and Spanish courses may fluctuate year to year depending on student enrollment. The incumbent needs to be able to do both subject areas, however. This is a unique opportunity to join a boarding school community that focuses on pre-professional training for artists while at the same time emphasizing the importance of academics. We are seeking an educator who will embrace and support the arts, and appreciate the unique environment of Idyllwild, the Academy, and its diverse and talented students.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
- Teaching a full time load between both ESL and Spanish. The specific number of ESL and Spanish courses may fluctuate year to year depending on student enrollment. The incumbent needs to be able to teach both subject areas, however.
- Grading students in a timely manner.
- Communicating with students, parents, and colleagues in a professional and timely manner.
- Serve as Advisor of a group of Academy students, and other typical full-time Academy faculty duties (i.e. chaperoning events or trips, etc.).
- Other administrative duties including attending Department or Academy meetings as requested by Dept. Chair, Assistant Head of School, or Head of School.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Position requires at least a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Spanish language and/or literature; Bachelor's and/or Master's in other fields acceptable if the incumbent has had bilingual education in Spanish and another language, or an equivalent; TESOL certification or equivalent.
Minimum Qualifications
- Fluency in both Spanish and English.
- Relevant teaching or instruction experience within a collegiate and/or high school institution. Knowledge of child development and social-emotional learning preferred.
- High level of organizational skills and outstanding professional communication skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion as related to teaching Spanish and ESL.
- High level of comfort with high school students, and international cultures.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Ability and desire to work within the Idyllwild community, Riverside County, or commute a reasonable distance, that does not impede on-time arrival during winter months.
Pass a criminal history background check as required by California Education Code Section 44237, and pass a TB test.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK ENVIRONMENTS
While performing the duties of this position an incumbent may be required to:
- Regularly remain sedentary for long periods of time in meetings and while processing information and paperwork both manually and on a computer.
- Reach with the hands and arms and use of hands to finger, type, and manipulate a computer keyboard and mouse.
- Additionally, the incumbent must be able to converse in clear English both written and orally, over a telephone and in person, and be able to make public presentations.
- Occasionally, incumbent may be required to lift up to 25 pounds, traverse uneven terrain and climb stairs while moving about campus, bend and stoop, conduct tours and show visitors campus facilities.
- Provide his/her transportation for local and remote events.
- Work hours vary and may include days, nights, and weekends.
