The Department of Social & Decision Sciences (SDS) seeks highly qualified candidates with training and research focus in behavioral economics with high potential to make pioneering advancements. Candidates should have a PhD in Economics, Behavioral Science, or a related discipline by the start of the appointment. Candidates who can collaborate with current SDS faculty and engage early-stage PhD students in their research are of special interest, as are those whose behavioral economics research is informed by a deep understanding of psychology or uses modern computational or data analytic techniques such as machine learning, but the search committee is eager to evaluate all qualified candidates. The successful candidate will teach in the PhD program as well as the undergraduate major in Behavioral Economics, Policy, and Organizations.
The Department of Social & Decision Science has been at the forefront of behavioral decision research for four decades and hosts a renowned faculty. In addition to PhD programs in Behavioral Decision Research, Cognitive Decision Science, and Behavioral Economics, SDS offers unique undergraduate majors in Decision Science; Behavioral Economics, Policy, & Organizations; and Policy & Management. The Center for Behavioral and Decision Research unites behavioral researchers across the university, maintains laboratory space, and sponsors a colloquium series. Carnegie Mellon University is a private, global research university of approximately 14,000 students that offers unmatched opportunities for interdisciplinary work.
The Department of Social & Decision Sciences is committed to building a diverse faculty. We believe that diversity of researchers, of research questions, and of research populations improves our field and our department, and we are actively seeking to better represent these values. Accordingly, we strongly encourage applications from underrepresented groups, including racial and ethnic minorities, women, individuals with disabilities, veterans, and/or from researchers whose work involves these populations. We also work actively to meet the needs of dual-career couples. Carnegie Mellon offers highly competitive salaries and start-up packages in an attractive and highly livable urban environment.
