Bard College is seeking a full-time research assistant in economics to work under faculty supervision on data-driven research and curricular programs launched by the Economic Democracy Initiative, Open Society University Network. The research project will study structural factors of inequality and poverty, specifically unemployment and its connection to other social deprivations. We are seeking a talented researcher (PhD in progress) interested in economic and social welfare policy and programs serving populations facing multiple socioeconomic barriers.
Responsibilities include research and teaching support with a focus on building the research database launched by OSUN's Economic Democracy Initiative. Candidates with an interest and expertise in inequality, unemployment, public policy, and job guarantees are especially encouraged to apply. Some of the responsibilities will include planning and curating research workshops, data management and analysis, editing and contributing to scholarly papers, articles, op-eds, and official reports, as well as creating and formatting charts, graphics, maps, tables, and other data visualizations and storyboards. Applicants should have a strong familiarity with alternative economic methodologies, heterodox economic theory and policy and a demonstrated ability to work with data from official sources, including but not limited to working with BLS, Census, and other data. The Research Assistant will also support the faculty with developing curricular programs, inverted classroom activities, and community engagement opportunities for students.
