Texas Lutheran University invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position in Musicology in the School of Music to begin fall 2023. Anticipated rank is Assistant or Associate Professor.
Required qualifications:
- Earned doctorate in Musicology, Ethnomusicology, or related field. (ABD considered with completion by August 2023)
- Evidence of excellence in higher education teaching Western classical music, non-Western music, including the music of groups historically excluded from music pedagogies, music education and historiography.
Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:
- Teach undergraduate major and core curriculum courses in music history to music majors.
- Teach special music topics to students from other disciplines across campus in such areas as: postcolonialism, women and gender studies, LGBTQIA+ studies, civic engagement/protest music, social justice, critical race theory, and anti-racist frameworks, especially pertaining to the music of Latin America, Africa, and non-Western music.
- An interest and ability to recruit students to the program, both majors and non-majors.
- Maintain knowledge of current and emerging trends in the field through research, professional development, and other additional opportunities.
- Strong Commitment to excellence in the teaching and advising of undergraduate students.
- Ability and desire to affirm the mission of Texas Lutheran University and work collegially with fellow faculty members.
The successful candidate will: teach in-person courses on our Seguin campus, assist to actively recruit music majors and non-majors in cooperation with the other members of the School of Music and Admissions; engage in scholarly and/or creative research activities; work collegially with representatives of other disciplines, programs, and offices on campus. Additional teaching assignments based on a candidate’s strengths, interest, and qualifications.
Preference will be given to candidates who meet the above qualifications and who also offer one or more of the following:
- Performance experience in world music, jazz, music of our time.
- Experience and knowledge of music technologies in teaching and area of research.
