Position Summary
The Department of Computer Science is recruiting multiple tenured/tenure-track faculty positions. The following areas of research expertise will be emphasized in the search:

Appointments to the faculty of The University of Alabama are based on the personnel requirements of the University’s academic programs and on the goal of achieving and maintaining excellence in its teaching, research, and service/academic citizenship activities.
Detailed Position Information
The Department of Computer Science at the University of Alabama invites applications for multiple tenured/tenure-track faculty positions across all domains relevant to computer science. Candidates with particular research interests and expertise in cyber security, autonomous/connected vehicles/transportation, applied AI/robotics, and/or combinations of these areas are of particular interest for one or more of these positions.
Successful applicants should either complement and build upon existing strengths of the department or have the potential to open up entirely new avenues of research outside of the scope of the department’s current efforts (https://eng.ua.edu/departments/computer-science). Candidates should describe in their research interests and plan section of their application materials how their area of research fits into context within the department, college, and university. To the extent that it may be appropriate, applicants should also consider the potential for interactions with the various University of Alabama Research Institutes (http://ovpred.ua.edu/research-institutes).
The Computer Science Department offers B.S. degrees in Computer Science and Cyber Security, and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science. The department has 25 faculty members (15 tenured/tenure-track faculty), approximately 900 undergraduates and 70 graduate students. The department research funding has more than doubled in the last three years with opportunities for collaboration with many research centers across the University. The Department is funded by agencies such as NSF, Google, Departments of Education and Commerce, various Defense agencies, multiple State agencies and other sponsors. Candidates will be considered for appointment at a rank commensurate with experience and qualifications. Candidates from under-represented groups in engineering are strongly encouraged to apply.
Minimum Qualifications
Successful applicants must have completion of a doctoral degree from an accredited institution in computer science or a closely related field by the starting date and demonstrate a record of or the ability for achievement in teaching, academic research, and service. Applicants must have conducted prior research work and produced scholarly publications in refereed and other professional journals and conferences; show the ability to construct a quality research program and effective collaboration with other faculty; and exhibit the potential for excellent teaching at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. Applicants must also meet all university criteria for appointment to the rank of Associate or Full Professor.
Preferred Qualifications
Successful applicants should possess a demonstrated record of high-quality research and scholarly publications that is recognized nationally; a significant record of scholarship in a department with undergraduate and graduate degree programs in Computer Science; experience working in a multicultural and diverse environment; and have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Candidates must have a strong record of both external grant funding and scholarship as demonstrated through refereed journal and conference publications.
