Job Description:
The Department of Anthropology in the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs invites applications for a tenure track assistant professor of cultural anthropology with a focus on applied anthropology, effective Fall 2023. The department seeks candidates broadly trained in anthropology who will contribute to the department's pedagogical program in four-field anthropology, and contribute to developing the department's focus on applied work. Topical and ethnographic areas of expertise are open, though the department seeks candidates who can reinforce and extend the department's topical and area foci. Especially interesting to the department will be candidates pursuing community-based research programs, natural resource management, social and environmental justice, or work by, with, and for indigenous peoples. The teaching load at the Maxwell School is 2 courses per semester. The successful candidate will annually teach a large introductory anthropology course, contribute to the teaching of ethnographic methods, public policy, international affairs, and applied anthropology. The successful candidate will contribute to the training of graduate students at the MA and Ph.D. levels. Syracuse University is classified as R1- Doctoral University with Very High Research Activity. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain an active program of research and publication and serve on departmental and other school and university committees.
