About the Position: | The Department of Music at UMBC announces a search for an Assistant Professor of Music (full-time, tenure track) in percussion performance, to begin August 23, 2023. We seek candidates with a broad range of experiences and accomplishments both within and outside of the Western classical percussion tradition. Demonstrated excellence in teaching percussion is required. This individual will be a skilled soloist and chamber musician and will perform with the faculty contemporary ensemble Ruckus as well as in other faculty chamber music performances. Applicants who demonstrate a commitment to diversity and inclusion by way of teaching, performing, publishing, or volunteer experiences are urged to submit an application. Central to this position are maintaining an active performance career and teaching percussion lesson and percussion ensemble, with opportunities to teach in areas aligned with the candidate’s expertise and the needs of the department within an undergraduate liberal arts curriculum. Current areas of need include theory and musicianship, jazz, ethnomusicology, and music history. Additional duties in advising and service are required of all faculty. Salary competitive. Doctorate or M.M. with equivalent performance experience required; successful teaching of undergraduate level students or equivalent graduate training is desired.
