The College of the Environment has an outstanding opportunity for an Assistant Dean of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion to join their team.

To truly address the many environmental challenges of our day, we must center equity and justice in our research, our approach to solutions, and the internal culture we build. As we embark on a new strategic direction under a new dean, advancing the values of diversity, equity, inclusion, access, and justice are central to our work.
The College is seeking an action-oriented Assistant Dean of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (ADDEI) to lead these efforts. In this role, you will work closely with the dean, senior staff, faculty, postdocs, students, and other community members to integrate an equity and justice lens into our shared strategic vision. This position represents an opportunity to shape the future of the College of the Environment’s DEI work, and along with it, the future of some of the most critical environmental research on the planet.
Reporting directly to the Maggie Walker Dean of the College of the Environment, you will identify, assess, and develop policies and best practices to support DEI work throughout the College.
Leadership and Policy Development
•Develop and implement evidence-based DEI initiatives to recruit and retain a world-class community of undergraduate and graduate students, postdocs, staff, and faculty.
•Develop a bold, actionable 10-year vision of diversity, equity and inclusion in the College.
•Collaborate with the College’s academic, research, administrative and outreach units to support DEI and related initiatives.
•Successfully secure resources to implement program activities.
•Serve as a strategic leader and subject matter expert, creating and cultivating a common vision of the College’s commitment to DEI.
•Serve as an advisor to the dean and College leadership, providing high-level analysis, strategy, and specific recommendations on College policy, communications, and issues with DEI impacts.
•Develop, plan and facilitate delivery of communications and workshops for the College community around DEI and related subject matter.
•Develop key metrics and collect data to measure progress towards the College’s DEI goals and identify areas that are falling short.
•Ensure that data and performance metrics are easily accessible and shared amongst the broader College community.
•Collaborate with partner organizations’ diversity councils and serve as an expert on various committees and teams, both internal and external to the College.
•Support affinity groups and registered student organizations through active engagement and consultation with them.
•Partner with the Tribal Relations Office to engage with Tribal communities and help serve as a liaison between the College’s units and local Nations.
•Five or more years of experience in relevant work
•Bachelor’s degree in relevant field
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
•Current or prior experience in creation, implementation, assessment, and management of a DEI plan with measurable, proven results
•Demonstrated commitment to serving diverse communities representing a range of social, economic, cultural, ideological, racial, and/or ethnic backgrounds
•Excellent verbal and written interpersonal communication skills
•Masters, PhD or EdDoc in a relevant field
•Demonstrated history of collaborative leadership with proven ability to build consensus across institutional and organizational lines among a diverse array of constituencies
•Experience managing and mentoring staff
•Experience with project management and problem-solving, ability to set priorities and manage multiple projects and competing deadlines
•Track record of successful proposal writing and related project development
•Demonstrated proficiency producing complex institutional reports, and navigating data, analytics, and/or related information management software
•Familiarity with or direct experience within a research-based university setting or STEM field
•Experience in monitoring, translating, and implementing relevant federal and state laws and regulations
•Familiarity with and/or demonstrated interest in environmental issues
