To set the course of UC Merced's evolution, in 2021 UC Merced will enact its first-ever 10-year strategic plan. This plan will guide how the values of equity and justice influence our pathway toward earning Carnegie R1 research status, growing enrollment, upholding our identity as a minority-serving institution, and operationalizing how commitments to equity, diversity and inclusion are enacted within each campus unit. UC Merced is expected to engage in sophisticated thinking, planning, and implementation of actions that effectively diversify the professoriate and staff, improve campus climate for all campus constituency groups, and strengthen our equity, diversity, and inclusion infrastructure and capacity.


About the Job

Reporting to the Vice Chancellor and Chief Diversity Officer, the Director of Equity, Justice, and Inclusive (EJIE) Excellence Learning will oversee the design and implementation of the EJIE's key programs and events. These educational services aim to increase campus wide understanding of inclusive excellence. Integrated into learning opportunities offered are the histories of distinct ethnic and racial communities as well as lived experiences that impact experiences within higher education such as first generation, disability, and nationality. The Director will be able to successfully develop and deliver curricula, events, workshops, training, and programming to meet the needs of diverse faculty, staff, and students. Insights gained from implementation and outcomes will be used to inform policies and practices that support and retain University California Merced faculty, staff, and students.

Functions as a seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of carrying out diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts in compliance with government legislation and management directives. Works on diversity, equity, and inclusion/accessibility assignments that are diverse and complex in scope.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Researches, designs, and administers educational programming to support campus climate and EJIE goals.
2. Builds strategic partnerships with relevant campus units to inform the quality and caliber of EJIE educational activities.
3. Develops proactive strategies to increase institutional understanding of the inclusive excellence framework and issues performing to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
4. Oversees our Equity and Justice Grants program to support campus efforts to promote inclusive excellence.
5. Serves on campus committees focused on EJIE Partners with key campus units, including but not limited to the center for teaching and engagement, academic personnel, human resources, Staff Assembly, and the Office of Informational Technology.
6. Collaborates with critical campus partners in hosting local, regional, statewide, and local conferences.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in psychology, sociology, organizational behavior, or related fields, and five years of directly related, progressively responsible experience delivering EJIE framing and/or educational activities pertinent to equity, diversity, and inclusive excellence. (Required)

An advanced degree in psychology, sociology, organizational behavior, or related fields, working with faculty and staff within a higher educational setting. (Preferred)

Subject matter expertise in equity, diversity, and inclusion.

Experience in working in a higher education context.

Curriculum design for higher educational constituents.

Learning-based assessment and evaluation skills.

Group facilitation.

Hybrid teaching modalities (online and in-person).

Understanding effective marketing and communications.

Background Check
