Job Summary: | The Department of Geography (https://geography.wisc.edu/) and International Studies Program (https://ismajor.wisc.edu/) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison are seeking applications for a joint tenure-track position of Assistant Professor in Environmental Geography and International Studies. We are particularly interested in applicants doing innovative research at the nexus of development economics, geography, and environmental studies. More specifically, we seek candidates who apply economic methods, within a quantitative or mixed methods framework, to evaluate contemporary environment and development issues within particular regional contexts. Topics include the economic dimensions of environmental issues such as climate change, urbanization, energy supply and infrastructure, water policy, environmental justice, and extractive industries. Candidates should work in the Global South. Priority study regions include but are not limited to Africa, East Asia, or the Middle East. |

Additional Information: | The International Studies Major is an interdisciplinary undergraduate instructional unit that focuses on the study of global issues, grounded in three core ideas: (i) A relational, interactional, contextually rooted understanding of global forces and dynamics; (ii) The mutual constitution of the global and the local, (iii) The importance of a broad, interdisciplinary approach to global issues. An outstanding feature of International Studies Major at UW Madison is the support provided by its many Title VI-funded Area Studies Programs (https://iris.wisc.edu/). The Department of Geography at UW-Madison is a top-ranked program with a renowned environmental geography program having strengths in the Global South and mixed method approaches. UW-Madison Geography offers BA/BS and graduate degrees (M.S./Ph.D.). |
