Postdoctoral Associate New Conversations Project: Sustainable Labor Standards in the Global Economy

The incumbent will work under the supervision of Professor Sarosh Kuruvilla, Academic Director of the New Conversations Project, and Executive Director, Jason Judd. The position will commence on November 1 for a 12 month appointment, with the possibility of renewal for another 10 months. The starting dates are negotiable.
Specific Roles and Responsibilities:
This position will work closely with Academic and Executive Director of NCP on various research and writing projects. The position will entail the analysis of supply chain and labor data, including panel and survey data from secondary sources. In addition, the role-holder will engage in field research, collecting data from companies, suppliers, and multi-stakeholder institutions in multiple countries. Outputs will include articles for a scholarly journals, trade journals, position papers, and a variety of working papers, including research content for the website. In addition, the postdoc will attend conferences and present the work of NCP in different locations, and carry out other tasks as instructed. The position could also involve teaching one elective class every semester.
Qualifications:
- Applicant must have a doctorate in labor relations, management, sociology, political science, economics, applied statistics or related fields.
- Applicant must have demonstrated interests in labor and environmental issues in global supply chains, corporate social responsibility, corporate sustainability, corporate greenwashing, labor relations and related topics.
- Applicants must have experience in the handling and organization of large data sets. Familiarity with analysis of panel or longitudinal data, and working with multilevel models is valued.
- Must have expertise in using statistical software such as STATA, R, SAS or SPSS.
- This is a full-time academic, non-tenure track benefits eligible position located in Ithaca, NY. Depending on COVID restrictions, it may be possible to work remotely initially, but the expectation is that this position will be Ithaca based.
This is a one-year appointment with possible extension, depending on available funding and work.
