POSITION:

Assistant Professor of Ethnic Studies (Asian American Studies): The Department of Ethnic Studies invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor. The person appointed to this position will teach in the areas of Asian American Studies and Ethnic Studies. Additional duties will include: demonstrating an active research agenda and the ability to integrate scholarly interests with student learning, with careful attention to advising and providing community engagement opportunities for undergraduates. The candidate chosen for this position will have the opportunity to: 1) develop new courses in their area of expertise to serve curricular needs within Ethnic Studies; 2) contribute to delivery of a professional certificate in Ethnic Studies; and 3) contribute to the ongoing development of the Ethnic Studies program and related co-curricular programming to help promote campus engagement, build relations with community organizations, and facilitate or participate in other relevant collaborations in the region. Effective teaching, scholarly productivity and service to the Ethnic Studies program and university are required for retention, promotion, and tenure.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

A Ph.D. in Ethnic Studies or closely related discipline is required for this appointment. ABD candidates may apply and will be considered, but must demonstrate completion of all degree requirements by the start of the appointment. Candidates must also provide evidence of effective university-level teaching.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Preference will be afforded to candidates who demonstrate successful application of critical pedagogies and scholarship that advances social justice efforts, with specific attention to one or more of the following areas: Southeast Asian American experiences, critical refugee studies, decolonial studies, transnationalism/migration, social movements, critical gender/sexuality studies, or community-based research. Preference will also be given to candidates who demonstrate a commitment to mentoring underrepresented students, engaging and sustaining collaborative community work (specifically with Asian American populations in the region), and advising campus clubs, such as the Asian Pacific Islander Club.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT and THE COLLEGE:
Ethnic Studies is one of thirteen departments in the College of the Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences at California State University, Stanislaus. We are a small collegial faculty engaged in regional and community-based research and teaching. Ethnic Studies is an interdisciplinary critical department that offers a minor and major with a general focus on theory, practice, and social change. Our faculty maintain numerous cross-disciplinary connections with colleagues in Sociology, Anthropology, Gender Studies, Theatre, Liberal Studies, the Community Equity Research Center, and Community Service Learning.

CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CLEARANCE NOTICE



The university requires a criminal and/or child abuse background check to be completed for many of its new employees, current employees seeking promotional or transfer opportunities, and current employees assigned new duties.
