Assistant Professor Professional Track â“ Teaching (Visiting, Two-Year Appointment)
Primarily responsible for the teaching/learning process and will also participate in the necessary operations of the institution; Work hours: Mon-Fri; 8 AM-5 PM or as work and teaching requirements indicate.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
100% Teaching and Service: Develop, implement and review effective teaching/learning processes, incorporating appropriate methodology, technology and other tools; Remain current in discipline and update course content when appropriate to reflect current levels of student knowledge in the discipline; Develop a system for ongoing evaluation of both teaching and learning, including expectations of student competency and student learning outcomes; Work in partnership with immediate supervisor through a formal system of evaluation of instruction to identify strengths and weaknesses and identify professional development activities to improve student learning. May be required to teach at other campuses or on-line. Maintain appropriate schedule of office hours for student access and inquiry; Work in partnership with student success personnel on student advising and orientation. Participate in institutional service roles such as but not limited to, college committees, club sponsorship, advisory committees, student/faculty recruitment and mentoring of new and part-time faculty.
Primary teaching responsibilities will be the Fort Worth satellite campus and online, though teaching on the main campus in Stephenville, Texas, is a possibility.
Primary service responsibilities will be in recruiting and advising students and developing the BAAS degree in Geographic Information Systems.
Education and Experience
Earned doctorate/terminal degree approved by the University and recognized by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges with appropriate academic credentials verified by Tarletonâ™s faculty credentialing processes. Candidates must (1) hold a Ph.D. in Geography, or a related field. ABD status may be considered as long as all degree requirements, including dissertation, defense of dissertation, and comprehensive examinations, have been successfully completed by the time of appointment â“ September 1, 2023; and (2) demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively with students, colleagues, and the public. Candidates will be evaluated according to a) overall quality of their academic preparation and scholarly work, b) evidence of commitment to teaching and skills as a teacher, and c) strength of recommendations.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Demonstrated ability in the discipline and show clear promise of teaching excellence as evidenced in evaluation by peers, department head, and college dean. Documented yearly progress of professional achievement in teaching and service.
Applicants are expected to have the ability to teach World Regional Geography as well as upper-level Geography and GIS courses required by the major and degree programs including Introduction to GIS and Applied Remote Sensing. Candidates with the ability to apply spatial methods across a variety of disciplinary approaches, such as the natural sciences and social sciences are encouraged to apply.
