The holder of the professorship would also serve as the leader of the Ira A. The director's responsibilities include informing the public, convening leaders in the field, conducting research, designing curricula and developing student activities inspired and informed by the Center's work. The Center also honors journalists who have produced exemplary work in this area with awards and fellowships, selected on a competitive basis.
As a full-time member of our faculty, the Lipman Professor will teach at least one course each semester, often but not exclusively focusing on the area of race relations, diversity and equal rights. Teaching duties include core classes in Writing and/or Reporting methods and advisory roles on master's projects and theses. In service to the school, the professor will work with faculty and staff to continue to improve the curriculum, read applications, serve on faculty committees as assigned, and otherwise advise students.
Columbia Graduate School of Journalism is dedicated to the goal of building a culturally diverse and pluralistic faculty committed to teaching and working in a diverse environment and can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the university community.
