The Digital, Data, and Design (D^3) Institute at Harvard is accepting applications for multiple postdoctoral fellows for academic year 2023-2024 to work on research activities at our research labs. D^3 launched in the summer of 2022 with 12 labs working on research at the intersection of academia and practice. For more information on D^3, please visit https://d3.harvard.edu.
The postdoctoral fellows will work under the direct supervision of faculty Principal Investigators and the Senior Associate Director, Lab Operations. They will work closely with the lab manager and research associate(s) at each lab. D^3 is looking for candidates with diverse backgrounds and/or new perspectives. There are no teaching requirements for these open positions.
The Crypto, Fintech, and Web3 Lab, led by Shai Bernstein, Marco Di Maggio, Scott Kominers, and David Parkes, is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow. The mission of the Crypto, Fintech, and Web3 Lab is to explore token systems, governance models, incentives, and evaluate how Web3 is impacting finance, entrepreneurship, and the broader economy. The goal of the Lab's research is to contribute to fundamental knowledge, shape the way these technologies are applied towards innovation, efficiency, and inclusion, inform companies, and shape the thinking of regulators. An ideal candidate will be interested in crypto, fintech, and/or Web3 and comfortable working directly with large data.
A typical empirical project involves refining a research question, designing an experiment or survey, analyzing historical and experimental data, and writing targeted at peer reviewed social science journals. Candidates should have some familiarity with:
Causal analysis and experimental design: difference-in-differences and fixed effects models, instrumental variables, treatment selection, power analysis, analysis of attrition and non-compliance, analysis of heterogenous effects and interference;
Programming/scripting knowledge suitable for processing raw data for analysis (e.g., text manipulation);
One or more computational environments for statistical analysis (e.g., Python, R, or Stata);
Writing papers for finance and economics journals;
Working with partner organizations or companies.

A Ph.D. in economics, finance or related discipline. PLEASENOTE: If you have obtained your Ph.D. in the past 12 months you must be able to provide a certificate of completion from the degree-granting institution OR a letter from the institute's registrar stating all requirements for the degree have been successfully completed and should verify the date the degree has been conferred. No exceptions.
Proficiency in the use of large datasets using SQL, AWS, Snowflake.
Strong team player with excellent communication skills

This is a term position through June 30, 2024, with the strong possibility of renewal based on funding and performance. Relocation funding not provided.
