The Technology, Law and Policy Program Coordinator will support the Director of the Technology, Law and Policy program at Berkeley Law's Human Rights Center in the administration of the program's general functioning and specific projects, including administrative support and assistance with project management.
The Human Rights Center at the University of California, Berkeley, School of Law is a multidisciplinary center that conducts research on war crimes and other serious violations of international humanitarian and human rights law. Using evidence-based methods and innovative technologies, we support efforts to hold perpetrators accountable and to protect vulnerable populations. We also train students and advocates to research, investigate, and document human rights violations and turn this information into effective action. We are guided by the need to listen to and support survivors, test innovative ideas, draw from multiple disciplines, use rigorous methods, and collaborate.

Responsibilities
Administrative support to the program:
- Exercises judgment within defined guidelines to resolve inquiries and administrative system issues that are routine in nature and of low complexity.
- Proposes solutions and brings problems to resolution, including providing hands-on technical assistance.
- Escalates non-routine and/or complex inquiries and issues to appropriate parties and assists with resolution when necessary.
- Assists Program Director and Development Officer by performing administrative tasks related to fundraising efforts, including, but not limited to, researching and verifying general information on potential donors, foundations, and grants; helping to draft grant requests and/or responses.
- Communicates with foundations, companies, and individual donors to schedule calls, meetings, and/or events, and showcase the program's work; attending, and helping to plan or coordinate fundraising events.
- Supports Program Director with personnel tasks, including but not limited to administering and coordinating paperwork for onboarding and offboarding staff, contractors, and students working for the program.
- Assists with the scheduling and coordination of internal and external meetings, events, and other program activities.
- Facilitates communications and scheduling with speakers and trainers, including the creation of flyers, engaging in outreach, organizing food, and other logistical aspects of the event planning process.
- Performs general administrative tasks as needed to ensure the smooth functioning of the program.
- May contribute to internal discussions on program strategy, priorities, and project selection, by discussing challenges and offering recommendations to program leadership.
- Engages with external advisors and partners to collect feedback and suggestions for improvement of the program.
- Attends substantive meetings, taking minutes at meetings, debriefing afterward, and highlighting and coordinating action items.
- Assists Program Director with communications efforts, including drafting language and providing input on the design for the website, newsletters, annual reports, and other public communications related to the Technology, Law, and Policy program.
General Research Support:
- Provides administrative support to the Program Director in drafting academic papers, reports, and other types of publications, including but not limited to basic background research and/or open-source fact-checking, investigation planning, and preparing final outputs to partners for the publication
Support to training and teaching:
- Coordinates and schedules training, workshops, and other functions specific to our professional training program.
- Assists with event organization.
Engages in professional development and training opportunities as needed. Performs additional duties within the scope of this classification as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Excellent organizational skills; Ability to prioritize tasks and manage competing deadlines with high levels of detail and accuracy.
- Skilled in online research.
- Good computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office, GSuite and video conferencing platforms Demonstrated ability to quickly learn new systems, tools, and computer programs.
- Ability to use discretion and maintain confidentiality.
- Excellent analytical skills and the ability to resolve complex problems and discrepancies creatively, while staying within policies.
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment and establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Demonstrated commitment to and understanding of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB), and ability to apply and integrate core concepts of DEIB into everyday practice.
- Must be committed to creating a community that fosters equity of experience and opportunity, and ensures that students, faculty, and staff of all backgrounds feel safe, welcome, and included.
- Must demonstrate a sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds present in our community.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience coordinating training programs is preferred.
- General interest in international law and human rights is preferred.
- Knowledge of or experience with open source investigations, human rights, and international law, is preferred.
Salary & Benefits
- This is a full-time (40 hours per week), career position that is eligible for full UC benefits.
- This position is non-exempt and paid bi-weekly. The hourly pay for this role is commensurate with experience within the range of $29.11 (Step 4) - $30.50 (Step 6).
- This position is elligible to work remotely 1 day per week.
