Precourt Institute for Energy
As part of the Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability, the Precourt Institute for Energy concentrates the talents of the University on energy research and education, from basic science and technology to policy and business. We disseminate research results and help the University develop energy-literate leaders as part of its educational mission. We work across campus in all seven of Stanford's schools. We also build collaborations globally with industry, other research institutions, government, and civic organizations in pursuit of sustainable, affordable, secure energy for all people.
Understand Energy Program
Understand Energy is a Stanford course offered out of the Civil and Environmental Engineering department and a program in the Precourt Institute for Energy to educate students and the public about our energy systems to empower them to address climate change and sustainability issues, engage on equity and human development challenges, participate in energy industry markets and technology innovations, and make informed energy decisions. We currently serve >300 students annually with our fall/spring/summer course offerings at Stanford.
Seeking Program Manager, Understand Energy
The Precourt Institute for Energy is seeking exceptional candidates to serve as a Program Manager for its Understand Energy Program, working closely with and reporting directly to the Project Manager for Understand Energy.
Job Description:
We are looking for a full-time Program Manager with process development experience, a strong interest and expertise in energy, and excellent organizational skills, who would be excited to help us extend the reach of our Understand Energy program from 300 Stanford students annually to 2-3 million people across the globe. The Program Manager will collaborate with the Project Manager on the primary oversight, development, and management of a web portal that will provide the general public with free access to highly curated Understand Energy course content. This role will partner with third party energy content providers and other team members to evaluate and oversee the Understand Energy site content to ensure it reflects current, relevant and accurate educational content.
This is a hybrid position based on Stanford's main campus that will follow Precourt Institute for Energy guidelines for days worked in the office and days worked remotely. Regular meetings, check-ins, and interactions will be a mix of in-person and on Zoom. This is a full-time, benefits-eligible position. Your Responsibilities will include:
- Independently design, develop, document, and implement workflows and processes for ongoing management of the UE web portal, including content updates and the curation and tracking of third-party energy videos and readings. Identify opportunities for quality and efficiency improvements.
- Collect and analyze data, create surveys and reports, review and explain trends, formulate and evaluate alternative solutions, make recommendations to achieve the goals of expansion of the Understand Energy program.
- Develop administrative processes and best practices for third-party content usage on the UE web portal, including ensuring sources are cited appropriately and obtaining express consent when required.
- Collect and evaluate feedback from UE web portal users, content experts, and other stakeholders. Use the feedback to formulate and present recommendations for portal modifications and enhancements to leadership.
- Evaluate, recommend, and oversee the planning and implementation of new UE web portal features, identifying resources and executing objectives.
- Contribute to the UE web portal and course content by performing activities such as researching, evaluating, and verifying content, collecting and reviewing dashboard data, critiquing energy videos and readings, and updating lecture slides.
- Engage with UE web portal team members as well as internal and external content experts, making recommendations on relevant portal and energy topics. Develop training for new UE web portal content contributors.
- Collaborate on strategic UE web portal development and communications.
- Lead the planning of UE web portal launch events within and outside of Stanford. Create outreach programs to encourage UE course alumni to use and promote the web portal.
- Expand and maintain personal energy knowledge by attending UE class lectures, reading news and informational articles, and watching curated energy videos.
- Monitor and track the UE web portal budget. Assist with annual budgeting.
- Other duties may also be assigned.
Work Environment
Precourt Institute for Energy is a teamwork-focused and collaborative work environment. The Program Manager reports to and works primarily with the Understand Energy Project Manager. The Program Manager is also a member of the Understand Energy Web Portal Project team, which includes the Project Manager, Managing Director, Web Developer, student contributors and other energy resource experts. In addition, the Program Manager collaborates with colleagues on the Explore Energy team (Precourt's student engagement program), including monthly meetings and annual offsites. The Understand Energy Program Manager will also connect and collaborate with other program managers, staff, and directors at various Precourt and Doerr School meetings, check-ins, and social events.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree and three years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.

- Demonstrated excellent organizational skills.
