Departmental Overview
The College of Environmental Design (CED) operates three academic departments - Architecture, City and Regional Planning, and Landscape Architecture and Environmental Planning - conferring both undergraduate and graduate degrees. CED has 55 full-time and 35 part-time teaching faculty, 44 career staff, and approximately 1,000 students. The operations of the College are financed with state funds, gifts and endowments and other revenue sources in an amount roughly totaling $18,000,000 annually.

Responsibilities

60% - Under the direction of the Director of Fabrication Services this position is responsible for: the instructions of safe use, instructions, and supervising activity in the CED fabrication resources including the Fabrication Shop, Digital Fabrication Lab, Material Store, Shop Yard, and Spray Booth. Provide consultation and assistance to users on their projects. Assist with promoting a safe, professional, inclusive, and positive shop culture. Maintain adherence to EH&S, CalOSHA, and campus compliance rules and regulations.
20% - Work in a collaborative team to manage resources, order supplies, schedule maintenance/upgrades, manage inventories.
20% - Assist with departmental projects/builds. Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in related field and/or equivalent years experience and two years professional experience in relevant field or working environment. Candidates must possess woodshop fabrication skills and digital fabrication skills. Advance knowledge of jig constructions, fixturing, and problem solving unconventional building methods. Working knowledge of digital fabrication tools/software for laser cutting, 3D printing, and CNC cutting.
- Emphasis on advance woodworking methodologies and teaching experience.
- Ability to instruct, mentor, and assist a diverse student population. Be an enthusiastic educational collaborator.
- Strong interpersonal skills including sensitivity, tact and diplomacy to develop and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty and staff.
- Solid abilities to consult and advise on instructional/research design/construction experiments and furniture pieces.
- Ability to focus, be patient, and communicate effectively in a high stress, busy, and loud working environment.
- Demonstrates ability to read, write and follow oral/written instructions provided in English. Ability to absorb and execute complex instructions.
- Incumbent must possess a high level of motivation and initiative. Must be willing to support and actively contribute to a highly collaborative team environment, with a proper customer-service attitude and active, appropriate communication to the customer and supervisor.
- Punctuality, reliability, and professionalism is required.
- Must be able to access work sites including heights, confined spaces; walk,stand, bend, kneel, and working on your feet for extended periods. Ability to move and handle heavy objects. Able to lift up to 25 pounds.
- Certified Red Cross first aid and CPR training or the ability to achieve certification within the first three months of employment.

- This is a partial-year-career appointment. 100% over 9 months of the year. Medical benefits, sick/vacation included. Must be available for day, evening and weekend shifts.
- The hourly salary range designated for this position: $35.55
