Position Details:
Summary of Duties:
The Agricultural Outreach Coordinator will provide oversight, leadership, curriculum development, applied research, education and outreach for WSU Extension agriculture program in San Juan County. In addition, there is an expectation of strong collaboration with other program areas, including 4-H Youth Development and WSU Master Gardener programs. The San Juan Islands are home to a diversity of direct-market vegetable and fruit producers, grain, forage and livestock farmers with unique challenges and opportunities relating to the island geography and economy. The Coordinator will maintain strong working relationships with local producers as well as representatives of organizations working on agricultural issues in San Juan County.
Assist with field research, facilitate outreach, promotion and evaluation of research findings in coordination with project partners. Develop new approaches to information delivery using online platforms.
Required Qualifications:
- A Bachelor's degree in a relevant extension program discipline and two (2) years of related program experience. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience with educational program delivery or field based research. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively using verbal, written and listening skills.
- Ability and willingness to travel and work a flexible schedule, including weekends and evenings. There is an expectation of travel year-round and reliable transportation (mileage reimbursed) is required.
- Occasional travel outside the county for training or other program related activities is also expected on a year-round basis, including possible overnight travel.
- While using a private vehicle for official business, the successful candidate must have current automobile liability insurance (meeting the requirements described in RCW 46.30.020 and RCW 46.29.090) and will possess a valid driver's license.
- Finalist(s) for this position will be subject to a pre-employment background check as a condition of employment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office software, including Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
- Knowledge of, and/or experience with, diverse farm operations in the region.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as in a team setting.
- Strong demonstrated written skills requiring limited editing and supervision in preparing reports, evaluations, press releases, synthesis of a broad range of materials, and effective written conveyance of program information to the public and program participants.
- Strong demonstrated verbal communication and listening skills: public speaking, effective conveyance of program information to the public, program participants, and decision-makers.
- Experience working/collaborating with multiple public agencies, NGOs, and individuals in partnerships.
- Experience conducting agricultural research.
- Experience developing curriculum.
- Demonstrated ability to relate to and collaborate with a wide range of people from varied social and economic levels, ages, races, ethnic backgrounds as well as in rural, suburban, and urban settings.
- Extended teaching experience in informal or formal (i.e., school) settings.
- Familiarity with social media.
- Demonstrated experience with programmatic evaluation and state-level 'civil rights' program and participant metric tracking and reporting.

In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate's current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.

Temporary End Date: This is a temporary one year project position. Renewal is dependent on the need for extension and/or if additional funding is secured to extend employment. Funding has been renewed successfully for several years and we expect funding to continue to be renewed.
