Departmental Overview
The Division of Undergraduate Education (UE) engages campus on vital academic initiatives that enrich the UC Berkeley undergraduate experience. Under the leadership of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education, UE formulates and implements campus strategy around undergraduate education and the student experience. We offer programs and services that support Berkeley students, faculty, and staff in teaching, learning, and discovery. This position resides within the Immediate Office of the Division and is responsible for managing financial and related administrative matters for the Division.
Responsibilities
- The Division of Undergraduate Education has evolved over the years to incorporate programs and initiatives designed to enhance the undergraduate experience across majors and disciplines. The incumbent will be responsible for financial and related administrative matters for the Division and all or some of its underlying units like Research, Teaching & Learning, Berkeley Connect, Discovery and others. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Performing complex financial analyses to understand past performance. Using deep professional knowledge and analytics to assess the present and to forecast future performance and resource allocations.
- Providing analytical support for budget, financial and resource matters for units within the Division of Undergraduate Education.
- Ensuring that the budget process for the Division is managed smoothly and in a timely manner. Performing complex financial or resource research and studies as needed for any of the existing programs within the Division or potentially an entirely new initiative.
- Making recommendations on changing or enhancing business processes to improve efficiencies and protect university resources.
- Accessing campus financial systems including BFS, CalAnswers, HCP/HCM and CalPlanning to run appropriate financial reports, and synthesize the data for decision making needs at the strategic and operational level.
- Partner with the Chief Financial Officer for the Division to assist in budget preparation and financial management for the Division. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Analyzing individual program budgets to assess structural deficits if any, and working on presenting these to leadership in a succinct manner.
- Assisting with integrating new initiatives into the Division.
- Ensuring that new programs as well as existing ones are aligned in their financial and business processes.
- Tracking and managing programmatic and designated funds provided to the Division.
- Fosters relationships with financial analysts and administrative officers within the Division, as well as across the University. Studies best practices for financial management across campus and from external sources to bring back to the Division. Also fosters relationship with unit heads within the Division.
- May lead a team of less experienced analysts and/or provide mentorship and professional development guidance to other team members.
- Actively manages Divisional funding resources of restricted, designated and unrestricted funds. Makes recommendations on reserve management to further Divisional interests.
- Uses advanced understanding of industry practices and organizational policies and procedures to resolve highly complex or difficult assignments.
- Other duties as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Advanced knowledge of finance policies, practices, and systems.
- Ability to identify, collect, and analyze information from multiple sources.
- Advanced ability to effectively present complex finance related information both verbally and in writing in a clear and concise manner.
- In depth ability to use multiple spreadsheet and database software tools to gather information for specialized, complex financial analysis, fiscal management, and financial reports.
- Advanced interpersonal skills and ability to interact and collaborate with all levels within the organization; advanced service orientation and critical thinking skills; attention to detail.
- In depth ability to use organizational skills to multi-task in a high volume environment.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities.
- Ability to function as a leader and member of a team.
- Advanced knowledge and understanding of internal control practices or the ability to learn quickly and their impact on protecting University resources.
- Advanced degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated ability to think strategically and lead business process improvement initiatives.
Salary & Benefits
This is an exempt, monthly paid position. The annual salary range of the position is $91,400.00 - $120,000.00, commensurate with experience.
